| My submission will be a Heinkel He 177. I'll hold the usual sprue shots as Digs has already completed this task for his offering. First task will be the wash and the dipping of transparencies. |

After having washed the sprues I did a dry run of the cockpit. I decided that it looked a little sparse and will need a small amount of extra detail added.
A little more work required on finding references re what the interior of a 'Grief 'looks like.
The other decision was what colour for the interior, the instructions call for Hu78. However after consulting the IPMS Stockholm web site I will be using Hu92. |

I haven't been able to find any interior shots on the web. The most thought provoking exterior pics are of the captured one with RAF roundels and D-day stripes...

I have a book with a section on this aircraft - I'll dig it out later and let you know what the colours are for interior, wheel wells, bomb bay, turrets etc if you like.

You could have a look at the Revell He 177 ... I'll have a look and see what aftermarket hints there might be.
Edit: Eduard make a nice set for the MPM 1:48 Greif.
There are 3 pdfs here for you to look at:

Lovely. Go for it. |

Thanks Brews I had discovered those plus some shots of the Revell interior.
My effort won't be as polished, however I made a start by using some 30 thou card to make up some new bulkheads. I used the bulkhead located at the rear of the bombay (part 17) as a template.
Having added the bulkheads and making a start on the console I commenced on the seats for the new crew figures scrounged from the spares box. These guys will need a coat of paint. The seats are from 10 thou card.
Having a look at the model there is a large cavity around the tail wheel.
I made up a bulkhead for the forward of the tail wheel compartment and a second one for the rear. In th later I added a door for the tail gunner.
Part of the work here required the removal of the locating pins for the prone gunner figure supplied with the kit.
After adding the rear bulkeds I then put in a floor and a seat. The figure I am using will need to have his legs straightened.
Not to obvious is that I Ihave filled the slot for the tailplane with green stuff. I still have to make up some blanks for the cavity for the rudder and also the portion of the locating slots for the tailplanes which can be seen in the wheel well.
In the mean time I have assembled and glued the tailplane and made a start on the undercart. |

Looks very good! You're going to (a) make my build a bit easier (when I finally get time to start) and (b) put me to shame!

Thanks for the comments Digs as we say its not a competition, there many better efforts out there than I can produce. I have had to remake a couple of seats, will post more pics. Wondering how far to go with the interior of the cockpit.
Have completed the wings, the undercart has had a bit of a set back in that the wheel halfs were very poor fit and will need filling and sanding before any more progress on that area. |

Now THAT sounds familiar You've put far more effort into the interior than I did. I think I'll be concentrating on the exterior more. So far I've found this kit to be bordering on hard work... |

| You know you're tempting me to get out my Greif ... we could have a Greif GB within the Heavies GB. |

The captured Greif was taken from here, Toulouse Blagnac airport. It was fistly captured by the French Reisstance and painted up in Free French colours, then the British special forces were parachuted in and took it back to the U.K. (Farnborough?).

Yes it was at Farnborough RAE in October/November 1945. I had just started work there as a Laboratory Assistant and it was an additional bonus to be treated to the static display of captured German aircraft. Later I will put up my log for those days in the 'Aircraft Spotting 62 years ago' thread. I never saw the He177 fly but I did see the He 162, Arado 234, Fieseler Storch and Ju88/188 ( and others) in flight whilst I was there. Wonderful times, never to be repeated.

We were lucky enough to meet Eric "Winkle" Brown a couple of years ago on a visit of his down here and he related many stories of his flying the captured '177 (amongst many others). He thoguht it was probably the 2nd most scary captured machine to fly from a pilot's point of view due to fear of the engine catching aflame and due to control feedback. The worst, by a massive margin, was the Me-163..... In that case, of course, 't wasn't just the engines that caught fire! _________________ Airbusians. Medium Bombers GB now underway. |

After the inital flurry, work again conspired to put several 100 km's between my model bench and me. The weekend has been spent painting the crew and the interior. The cockpit is now in place. I struck a problem with the rear bulkheads around the tail wheel. They were a little too large and had to be cut out ,sanded down and reglued. Undercart has been prepainted and here a question arose. The undercarrige legs are Hu11 according to the instructions. My temptation is to us Hu56 or RLM02, open to suggestions here.
Photo's to follow. |

Some photo's, the cockpit largely done with an instrument panel drilled out awaiting some clearfix.
The cockpit now largely complete. There is more detail which may yet come in the form of a bombsight but I'll have to wait to see how much enthusiasm
Planning a day off this week, hope to catch up. |

| That looks very good, the cockpit certainly a lot busier than if it had been left alone. |
