I have "hit the wall" a lot in the last 6 months and have had no desire to sit at the bench for a fair few weeks or even months. I have tried to re-kindle my enthusiasm by various methods, but all have failed, which means that I have decided to stop this hobby entirely. I have sold a good third of my stash, with another third to go and have not felt a single pang of regret at the sale of anything - this seems to tell me that my decision is correct. The remaining third of my models and tools will be packed away securely, as I am pretty certain that I shall return to the hobby in a few years.

I have enjoyed my time immensely on the ATF and would like to thank Ratch, Dave and all the Admins and Mods for making this such a very pleasant place to be. My photo links will be maintained, so that no blank spaces appear and that way new members can marvel at my sheer incompetence, stupidity and general numb-headedness.

I wish you all the very best of British luck and hope to see you at some point in the future.

Happy Modelling

Alex

Sorry to here you go Alex. I feel sure in the future, you will get the urge again. I'm in a race with time, (going blind, luckily slowly), so enjoying model making while I can. So best of luck to you, and your new ventures, what ever you choose, to while away the hours.

I'm sorry to hear this Alex - I have always admired your work. However, if the muse has departed then you are doing the right thing. I am sure that you will be back again in time! I am glad you'll leave the pictures up for us to admire.
Good luck!
Piers

Wise decision. It is never best to try and flog a dead horse. You will return when you are good and ready. In the meantime, enjoy your break.

I can add little to what has been said already.
I've enjoyed your creative sillyness in your scenes.
All the best for what is ahead and I hope you someday return to building
Enjoy what ever hobby/pastime you chose to undertake now.

Thanks for all the enjoyment I have derived from your imagination over the years.

Fully understand what you are doing, hope the creative juices start flowing again sometime in the future.

Take care.

Sorry to hear that - where are we going to go for a spot of lunacy from now on?

Sorry to read this, but admire the way you're handling it. Thanks a million for sharing your work - even in goodbye for now, you had me guffawing through the sadness with your humour! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
All the very best, and look forward to clapping you back onto the pitch...

Alex, it has been a pleasure to share your company at various shows and events. You are a true gent and I wish you happiness in whatever you choose to do. If/when you decide to dabble again, please come back and tell us, we've all enjoyed the crazy, madcap world of our tame Thetfordian. All the best buddy

Truly sorry to lose you Cap'n... I have (and will continue to do so) thoroughly enjoyed looking through your collections. I'm sure there are lots of other creative ventures to turn that unique imagination too, I hope you find something rewarding to exercise it on.

I hope you'll still be dropping by to keep an eye on us (i've got one of these http://home.earthlink.net/~peredhil/Invaders.html i wanted to show you - can you imagine it under new owners, making a visit to the planet Exxilon?)

All the best Alex, its not an easy decision but one you have clearly thought through. I am sure we will all still be here if/when you decide to return to the hobby.

Take care mate :thumb:

Ditto all the sympathies above, but also a big commendation for your consideration (and courage) in letting us know your decision. Many seem to simply slip away, and I'm sure they have extremely good reasons, but to stand up and say 'I'm off now, chaps' shows a dignity all too rare these days. Bon voyage et bonne chance!

Sorry to hear you are closing your factory of pure brilliance.
It has always been fun to follow your progress and your imagination.
I hope you from time to time will make a visit on ATF, but I understand you are deadly tired of plastic at the moment. A hobby is only fun if you can enjoy it without stress. If you later finds out you can't be without the jolly gang of people here at the ATF you can always expect a warm welcome back.

Take care.

With  from Jesper.

Its a shame that you have reached the point where you dont think you want to continue with the hobby.
You have had the courage to go public whereas most would just fade away.

I have often felt that I too want to do other things and have tended to leave alone for long periods but it is nice to look over things and gain interest again.
As already has been said, we are here ready to welcome you back however long it takes . . . .

good luck with your free time now.
Ian

awww man, this sucks but people can understand how you feel. Been struggling myself over the last 12 months to want to pick up a model and finish it. I just go with the flow now and if I build, I build.

I echo others on the ATF when I say you have always been a great member of this forum and always been helpful and encouraging to me and many others here. You have always been positive about builds and not once have you ever told someone it isn't accurate enough or that it's the wrong colour etc.

I wish you all the best and I do hope that you will return someday with some more great builds.
Take care.
Nick

I understand how you feel. I haven't built a kit for around 12 months. I've been so busy on other projects that my modelling mojo has gone. Good luck on your current chosen path (where ever it takes you).

Hi Everyone and thank you for your very kind comments and wishes which have left me touched (I'm sure you suspected that for a long time).

I suspect I will return in a few years time and am safely packing away lots of classic Airfix, Matchbox, Tamiya, Hasegawa and Revell kits, not to mention Zombies, Aliens, Daleks, Cyber Men and Goblins. My intention is to convert the model room to a study over the next 3 months and then try some writing - the very thought terrifies me

I will hope to see you all in the future and thanks once again for your kind thoughts.

Best wishes

Alex
