What is KitStarter?
KitStarter is an exciting new, experimental concept in modelling, exclusive to the Airfix website. Essentially it is your chance to decide which vintage Airfix models, from a selection, are put back into production for a limited edition run.
The Airfix archive includes a wide variety of models, including subjects that you might not expect such as historical figures, birds and even dinosaurs! We will be adding more kits each month as the KitStarter project develops, and you can even suggest what you'd like to see revived on the KitStarter Forum.

Airfix 1/72 DHC Beaver
Description
Put the classic DHC Beaver kit back into production by backing this KitStarter project - place a pre-order now to show your support.
Year first released: 1972
Price includes free UK shipping - international orders will be charged at standard delivery rates.
As the tooling for this model is held in India, the manufacture will take place there hence the lead time for production will be slightly longer.
Please note - the finished model will be supplied in plain packaging and not the original vintage box. We will advise which Humbrol paints to use with this kit once the model has been put into production.
As this model is being produced from its original mould, some slight flashing and other minor age-related flaws may be present in the kit.

A little bit sneaky of Airfix to picture The Migrant's masterpiece in the Aerodrome section.

Anybody seeing that might think it's a newer tool than it is with engraved lines & lovely details.

Decal scheme will be as per the last issue of the kit. Packaging will be plain brown box with Airfix and KitStarter stickers. The production run limited enough that it should definitely be collectible for those so inclined.

It has gone up 1% in the last week or so. I can't see it or even the Basset reaching the finishing line. I was thinking there may be a surge after SMW, but I didn't see any sign of them promoting it there.

With all the Kitstarters so far, more than half the interest has been in the first week, this one hit 27% in presumably 4 days, if the first post is the day it was announced (or near enough). If its promoted in the Yearbook, there might be a steady trickle over the next couple of months, but I think any that enter production in a realistic timeframe need to be hitting 50-60% interest within the first week. The other option is for Airfix to adjust expectations, offer it at either a higher price point with a lower target, or lower the price and double the sales target.

Personally I've not gone for any because there's such a glut of new toolings around that it'd have to be a kit that really ticks all the boxes for me, both in terms of my interest in the subject and price compared to second hand examples.

Six weeks for a 2% increase. I can't see this one going into production.

I'm interested, got 2 on order,
ones probably going to be the American Air Force version on floats, the other is going to be army air Corp in a black and green camouflage scheme,
seen them often enough when I was growing up, last seen one in the early 90's, doing low level manoeuvres with a gazelle over Lisburn, a town near Belfast

Got an email from airfix, the beaver hasn't made it into production, probably not enough orders to make the production run viable

That must be disappointing to those who backed this
It seems that, for the majority of proposals there has been insufficient backing
I wonder how the thresholds were set

I don't think it was thought through properly. I have suggested to Airfix that a small range of rare kits in original packing could be a viable proposition. KitStarter seemed to address this idea, but I think was dreamed up by youngsters in the marketing department.

With the exception of the Basset, all the other ideas were kits that had been produced by Humbrol or not since Airfix first went under. Why would anyone want to pay a lot for Henry VIII, Rolls-Royce, even Beaver, etc, when they were last produced a dozen or so years ago and are on eBay. Black Prince or Richard III, possibly, or the Lanchester Landaulette.

If they had chosen the Boy Scout, Showjumper or Free Enterprise and put them into facsimile packing of the original (with a tiny Hornby logo - Cartograf size - on the box side), then a lot of older modellers would have gone for them. A £20 Boy Scout in pristine packing (apart from the tiny Hornby logo) would have satisfied a lot of people's desire to add one to their collection cheaply. A large part of the wish to add old models to one's collection is the need to have the kit in original packing, why else would anyone want to add a Boy Scout in a brown box?

It looks like Hornby won't be able to look to sales of KitStarter kits to get them out of their present woes!!

I have to agree with you there. There was nothing on the Kickstarter that tickled my fancy, or I could get for a reasonable price elsewhere.
