That with the advent of the new 1/72 Spitfire Mk.IX we run a Spit Mk.IX GB, building both the new and old tooled kits? Any ideas on the matter? _________________ Owen

We've got the Nightstalkers GB running until June, and whatever wins the current poll after that. No objections to a Spitfire GB after that (subject to the usual voting procedures), although we did have one two years ago. _________________ Cheers,

I'd be interested, as I have the Aircraft of the Aces boxing of JE*J, and will be getting the new kit when it comes out. _________________ For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times - before the Empire... |

Would a IX GB not be a little limiting? IMO it should be a Spit build in general, it'd make it a lot more interesting. _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Its the way we used to do it on the old Airfix site - everyone built exactly the same kit and for that reason I like it
Unfortunately I can't think of a good reason to buy a Mk IX _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Taken from the GB rules & FAQ:
| davecov wrote: | Types of Group Builds
There are now seven types of Group Build on this site;
...
Specific Kit Build
This is where we each build the same *Airfix kit. So, for example, we might each build the Airfix 1/144 Concorde, or the Airfix 1/72 dH Heron. We would not mix and match scales as per the Standard Group Build.
...
|
As I said, we had a general Spit GB a couple of years ago, so I'd not be so happy to repeat that so soon.
As an aside, isn't is interesting that it's taken us so long to have a Concorde GB, given that Dave mentioned it so long ago? _________________ Cheers,

And if anyone would like to join in the Airfix Concorde GB which starts on May 15th please see here:

1/144 and 1/72, any scheme welcome.

My thinking was that with prospect of Airfix releasing a new tool Spitfire Mk.IX in 1/72, it might make quite a good subject for a GB as it would offer a good way to constructively review the kit, based on multiple shared experiences and opinions. Comparison with the older tool Mk.IX would be possible and might highlight possible advances
I was just curious to see what others thought of the idea _________________ Owen

Its a good idea none-the-less and could be adopted for any of the retooled kits _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

This does sound like a good idea. There's one thing I'm not too clear on, would each participant have to build both old and new tool mk.IX's in parallel or be free to choose one or other (or both). _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

How about a new for old themed GB?
Any subject, each participant builds a new tooling kit of their choice, and a previous incarnation of the same type in parallel.
Could be a nice compare and contrast exercise and as long as we are talking 1/72 shouldn't be too onerous.
Comments?

I much prefer that Colin, & I put my suggestion for a General Spit build forward as surely new IX and old IX will be completely different kits anyway! (I hope so for Airfix's sake!) _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Isn't that the point? A comparison of the old and the new? (Unless I'm missing something)
I like the idea of the this particular build, as JE-J is one of the oldest existing Airfix toolings and is about to be replaced with a brand new kit of the same type. It has a certain poetry to it. Anyway, it needn't be limiting as there are thousands of aircraft to choose from including alternative variants (PRIX, XVI etc) and various nations (Czechoslovakia, Israel, Egypt, Netherlands etc). What's not to like? |
