Apologies for my absence from here over the last few weeks, there have been a number of personal and work related issues that I have had to deal with, these have kept me away from modelling and only allowed fleeting visits to the forum. These issues have now largely been resolved and I can allocate some more time to my hobbies.

Anyway that is enough of my waffle let us get on with the matter in hand.

We have two pending/planned builds: the Anti Aircraft Build and the Amphibious Warfare Build, both seemed popular at the time of the initial polls but all seems to have gone quiet since (possibly due to my lack of goading and cajoling). I have therefore set out the above poll just to re gauge the level of interest. Accordingly if you are interested in taking part in either or indeed both of these builds please tick the relevant box and kindly leave a comment to say which you would like to make, this will allow me to hunt you down come start date.

For further clarification the Anti Aircraft Build will be a conversion based on an Airfix kit as voted for in the previous poll.

The Amphibious Warfare Build will feature any of the following Airfix kits: Buffalo, LCM, LCVP, a conversion using an Airfix kit as the basis and as a late addition the DUKW.

The poll will run for 7 days I will then ask Dave to set up the user group for the build with the most takers and we can have a vote on start dates

Cheers

Stu

Does the Bristol Bloodhound qualify for the Anti-Aircraft spec

I've gone for the Amphib build, but I might be tempted into the AA build as long as I could find a subject.

If you are going to use it as a basis for a conversion then yes. The Bloodhound actually came 2nd in the original poll, see following link.

http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/ftopic5201-0.php

I hope that the Bloodhound and also the Bofors gun and tractor will feature in future group builds as individual subjects.

Of course if there are no takers for the Anti Aircraft build this time we may have to throw them all back into the pot for another day.

Cheers

OK, I'll take the Bloodhound out of the equation
The only kit(s) I have in my stash that I was thinking of doing conversions on are the Matador 6 wheeler and Bedford QL from the Refuelling set, but my limited research so far reveals only army transport types as possibilities

I wonder if either the Matador or Bedford were used to mount search lights or as control vehicles, will have a look at some references tonight.

I voted for the amphip (mainly because I have an LCM in the stash), although I think the AA would be more interesting, I would certainly join this one if offered in the future (I need to reduce the stash before getting new kits)

It seems that the next build in this section will be the Amphibious Warfare build, clear winner with 6 votes.

I will ask Dave to set up the user group and we can have a quick vote for a start date.

Hopefully we can return to the Anti Aircraft build at a later date.

Cheers

I can't remember if I voted or not. I have an LCMIII though. I suppose I could make it a Flakboat

Presumably the AA Group Build will be next.....Thiis would fit in with my own plans admirably!

I am in the process of collecting Airfix Bofors Gun & Tractor kits, I will need to build at least four guns for my longer term OSL related project.

For what it's worth & All the best

Certainly looks like the AA build will be up next. I will also be digging out my bofors kits, may only build 3 of them for now though.

Would you be interested in trading any of your Tractors.  I'm interested in doing several Morris CS8 (1940) conversions using this vehicle.  I would be glad to trade extra Bofors guns or similar stuff.

TIA & All the best

I will have a count up to see if I have any spares although I think that I will be using all of mine.

I have a set of plans (from the same source as my Morris CS8) enabling one to convert the Airfix 1/76 Bedford QL Refueller into a Bedford QL-B Bofors Gun Tractor.  I would be happy to scan and e-mail them to you if you are interested in trying a slightly different Bofors & Tractor build.  (Quite coincidentally freeing up some Morris Tractors of course!   )

I have recently bought one MB/Revell Monty's Caravan kit and will have to buy at least one more....I am not quite sure what to do with the Leyland Retrievers.  One of the options I was toying with is a (Fictional?   ) 40mm Bofors Portee.....The truck certainly looks big enough to mount and operate the gun and it might be quite a fun build!

I would  certainly be interested in seeing the article/plans although it would probably mean that any spare tractors would then be available for conversion to the CS8 by me

If you are interested, and I can find it , I have an article showing various conversion possibilities for Leyland Retrievers, there are quite a variety of usages for this kit if memory serves.

I think we need to start a campaign for more Airfix soft skin vehicle kits

Cheers

No problem, I will see if I can find them, I rather cleverly made an index of all small scale articles that I thought might be of interest but rather stupidly have an enormous mountain of magazines to search through before I can locate anything Must get around to putting them all in binders. Should get to them by the weekend

I will, no doubt, have similar hassles getting the scans done this end.  I will probably scan all of the 1/76 Airfix/MB related stuff and send it as a bundle.....Expect a PM as & when.

Richard,
If you are still interested I'll send the various scans your way too.....Anyone else up for a set?

There is some quite hard-core stuff included in this rather fine old book so if anyone really fancies scratch-building a 1/76 Soviet T-26 or BT-7 tank let me know......Personally I'll buy the 1/72 UM & Mirage kits!

All the best
BTW - Ratch if you want to build the Bedford QL-B Bofors Trator, I should have a fair few spares that would be useful, including 40mm ammo lockers, left over from my CS8 conversions.  I'm also likely to wind up with a few surplus Bofors Guns.....Swapsies anyone?
