My local model shop is currently clearing out its line of Humbrol paints to make way for the Tamiya product. Over the past few weeks, I've been going in and stocking up. When I went in today, they had a cardboard box full of Humbrol tinlets that were being sold for 50p each. However, they were discontinued colours. Suffice to say, I bought a heap of them.

Now, I keep a stock list of the paints I have. I look up this list to ensure that I have the paint before I start a model. However, it's a little patchy when it comes to the obsolete paint codes. Can anyone tell me if the following paints are matt, gloss or satin?

168 Hemp
179 French Artillery Green
175 Hellgrau
183 Grey
184 Freight Stock Grey.

Lastly, I also bought a tinlet of Humbrol Metalcote Satin Bronze. Does anyone know the number of this tin?

Cheers.

168, 183 and 184 are satin, 175 and 179 are matt. I don't have a number for the bronze to hand.

I've got MetalCote Bronze somewhere, gold as well I think. I'll see if I can find them.

I’ve just bought eight unused No.4 size tinlets of Humbrol Nitrate Cellulose Dope, which date from the early 1970s. The numbers are:

19 Red
22 White
38 Green
69 Yellow

Can anyone give me the correct colour names?

lso, can anyone remember when Humbrol discontinued this line? I remember using them as a kid in the 1970s, but can’t think when I last saw them on sale.

If anyone is interested I have duplicates of 22 and 69.

Sean

Owen, Richard, thanks very much.

Anyone know where I can find a range listing?

Sean

Judging by the advice already given, I'd say the numbers correspond with the current range

So did the old Humbrol dope range use the same numbering system as the enamels/acrylics? Or are we all getting confused here?

Or is it just me? :D

Frogman - here's a chart:

http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/p ... umbrol.htm

Deleted colours down the bottom, chart not updated from 1999 but still useful. Metalcote colours mentioned in the middle section but no Bronze or Gold

Thanks. Have I made it clear that I'm talking about the toxic nitrate cellulose dope rather than enamel paint?

Well I understood what you were after but unfortunately I don't know the answer.

Apologies, I should have directed my answer at Spudgun, who asked the initial question. For what it's worth, I'd be amazed if the Humbrol Dope range didn't use exactly the same number system as the rest. Again,my bad.

No problems, Puttyfinger, perhaps I should ask in one of the aeromodelling forums. I'm a bit reluctant to join another group as I am already getting all the spam I can eat!

I was wondering if any one could help me out. I got the VJ gift set recently and was looking for the paint for the Brewster Buffalo, the only thing is they say to use paint numbers 95, 151 and 188.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea what colours these are, i tried Google and can't find anything, and what alternatives might be of any use to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

These colours are no longer produced by Humbrol but they were:

95 - Matt Concrete
151 - (can't remember the original name but it was a medium/light green)
188 - Chrome Yellow (Gloss)

In place of these, I would use:

H121 Matt Pale Stone
H78 Matt Cockpit Green (seeing as it is required for interior and wheel wells)
H24 Matt Yellow

Of course, somebody else may have different ideas....

HU 151 is Interior Green FS34151. I found a tin at my LMS last year. It's a bit lighter and greener than Hu78.

What do they want you to paint H95?, it might help us work out a suitable replacement.
