I thought these might give some inspiration (Sherringham Cliffs and Beach):

I'm afraid you can't! It was private property so I had to take the pics from the road!

http://www.flamesofwar.com/Defaul...0&art_id=233&kb_cat_id=24

This is about how to make good standard wargaming boards.
Bar the rock faces and the seperate bases for various things, i think it's a useful article!

Also, i was wondering what make/kind of grass we would go for? Bogstandard static grass didn't say 'Britain' to me as it looks too sunny and wargamey, but there are 'Pasture' Type kinds of static grass and flock out there which look more real all round i think

Useful article Joe
My personal view is that static grass looks good for mown lawns, tidy verges and the like and that the rougher pasture type would suit grazing fields (or pasture land )

i'd agree, ratch. Thinking about it, in the main villiage/s we should use trimmed and watered grass ( lush static grass ), because it's surely tended to by those nice british locals!

Heres a great load of articles we'll be needing

http://us.games-workshop.com/games/lotr/terrain/tt_texture/main.htm

On the roadsides ect, we could go for something like regular green flock for natural bogstandard roadside grass.

In fields that are/have been occupied by livestock we could go for darker static grass, layed in patches on top of flock to look like its been grazed and trampled.

In unused fields just go for field grass which is here: http://www.woodlandscenics.com/images/FG174b.jpg

And then for paths and rough not very nice areas go for this http://us.games-workshop.com/games/lotr/terrain/tt_texture/earth.htm

The Tauchpanzer III was an amphibious tank, based on the Pz III Ausf E, built specially for Operation Sealion.  This was not a swimming tank, it drove along the bottom and used snorkels to supply air and to vent its exhaust.  It was actually used for crossing some of the Soviet Union's quite sizeable rivers during Operation Barbarossa.

Off Topic
The flamethrower version of the Pz III was the Flammpanzer III.  This was a comparatively late development, converted from the Pz III Ausf M and a very nasty beast indeed!.  The Italeri 1/72 Pz III Ausf M kit contains basic parts to build one of these fire breathing monsters.....It's the long thick gun tube not mentioned in the instructions!

TBH I don't know that much.....Just a little about each subject and a bit of detail about one or two favourites.....We have members much more knowlegable than me!  I am a fairly prolific browser of the net and I pick up a fair bit of information online.....How useful or accurate some of it actually is, is probably open to debate!

I really can't afford to buy all the reference materel that I would like while still buying up my stash.  The good news is that I have nearly all the vehicles that I want for my 1/72 German forces.....The bad news is that I now also have American, British & Commonwealth, Finnish, French, Italian, Partisan, Polish and Soviet forces of various sizes underway too.....The latter is proving extremely costly!

I think sometimes you gain knowledge because of modelling.
For example, i know quite a bit about planes and AFVs etc because i make models

If ya get me

For anyone wanting to backdate the Airfix PzIV Ausf F/F2 to an almost accurate Ausf C:

http://wargames.spyz.org/convPZIVC.html

This conversion is not as detailed or as accurate as the Ausf D conversion linked to earlier.  The Pz IV Ausf C should have a very different gun mantlet to the Airfix kit and the kit exhaust should be replaced in the same manner as for the Ausf D.

Just for some idea for layouts, here are some shots that I took at Salute back in April of a what if wargame based around Operation Sealion. I thought that the idea was quite simple and fairly effective.

Some of the materials used to obtain the various field textures include towelling and teddy bear fur.

You will also note a police call box which rather mysteriously moved around the table during the course of the day I wonder how it managed that

Cheers

Stu
