I've got a choice between a couple of kits - either the Bf.109-E or the Fw.190-D. The latter is taking my fancy a little more.
I haven't worked on anything for quite a while, so the workbench is clear. Unfortunately, it is currently blocked by lots of bits of ply - and I've got a slight damp problem in the corner of my shed so I might have other duties to do before starting! _________________ Owen

I think I'll be going for the Fw.190 - I just need to fish it out of the loft and move 6 sheets of 8'x4' Ply away from my workbench! _________________ Owen

Just been up into the loft and scrambled around - found it!
Le Box - this kit is pre-Hornby. I had it for Christmas last year, but it came off eBay for something like £20:
Left Fuselage and Parts:
Right Fuselage and Parts:
Wing Components:
Decal Sheet, which looks pretty much in check. Luftwaffe Crosses are a little out on the edge, but trimming them will cure that problem.
...and a nice two-colour instruction booklet.
The plan of action, once I've cleared my workbench will be to whip out the airbrush and paint the majority of the parts on the sprue. Most parts for the cockpit and interior seem to have a callout for H79, so this'll probably be the first port of call _________________ Owen

I think this kit may be trying to kill me.
Having brought it down from the loft, I was taking it downstairs along with some of the stuff I bought from SMW and slipped down the stairs and have now broken my toe! Quite a convenient injury as I can't really walk around much now! _________________ Owen

Ouch! Still makes a change from the normal modelling related injury of a cut finger! Presumably you'll be immobile at your modelling desk being waited on hand and foot .

What would RLM66 be used for Bruce?
On another note, here is a photo of the painted parts so far:

Done a bit more tonight, although not much to show for yet. Got the airbrush out and sprayed up quite a few interior parts H79. I'm still not decided on which aircraft to build from the in-box schemes - the A-6 takes my fancy the most. I quite like the A-5, but I'm not keen on the need to mix colours for the undersides (28+65 - is there a pre-mixed colour in another range) and the decals on the nose. (See Ian & Ian's builds here: http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/ftopic928-0-asc-20.php) _________________ Owen

Had a bit more of a crack at this this evening and made a start on the cockpit and engine assemblies.
The basic cockpit components have been assembled. The finish on the coat I sprayed yesterday isn't great (As can be seen around the knobs and buttons), so It'll go back into the paint shop for another coat. I've had to clean up quite a few parts anyway so it could do with another coat.
The detail inside the cockpit is adequate for me, it'll just need a bit of sprucing up here and there with the odd detail (seatbelts etc), but I'm not going to bother with a replacement cockpit. The Heritage stuff I bought for the Harrier was a headache and a half and I don't want to start thinking about that kit!
The engine bits are on the agenda next, and I've made a start by painting a few of these before assembly. I numbered what parts each bit was on the back as they are all quite similar to avoid confusion. Just a bit of H11 on the heads, with a light bit of drybrushing to show the detail. I'll give this a dark wash at some point to make it look a bit more oily.
Like with a lot of parts in this kit, there is a lot of flash which isn't particularly great. I could whip this together but I'd rather try and do a good job and clean up the parts. I want this build to be one of the best I've done so will try my best to be as precise as possible. Slow and steady wins the race _________________ Owen

I've painted up a few more components this evening and the majority of the engine block is complete. Next thing on the books is to work on the cockpit, then clean and detail this:

I spent the evening doing a few more bits - I intended to stop at 10:00, but looked up at the clock and it was 10:45! Lots done though - more detailing on the engine block and cockpit along with the slow task of brush painting large parts of the interior H78. _________________ Owen

I'm going by the colour callouts in the instructions - I presume from your reaction this is incorrect! _________________ Owen

Hu: 78 is an RAF colour
Why would the Luftwaffe paint their aircraft in British paints
RLM 66 throughout the interior I'd say _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

The question of the accuracy of the interior did run across my mind, but I presumed the callout must be correct as the interior that needs to be H78 does not include the cockpit (The cockpit callout is H79) - H78 is recommended for the engine and panel interiors.
Better get respraying _________________ Owen
