I shall be building this Harrier GR3 in 1/72 and will finish it in the Green/Grey camo scheme. _________________ Owen

I made a start on things this morning. Sprues were primed up in Halfords Primer ready to go.
A couple of hours later, once dry I began the fitting of the cockpit component (i.e., one seat!) and the engine parts. The fuselage halves have now been glued together, with filler curing on the seams but I didn't take any photos _________________ Owen

Laborious filling and sanding at the moment, the current state of play looks like this:

Sorry for the lack of updates. I've been on holiday for the past week but have had problems with spraying Humbrol Acrylics. I had originally planned to use these for this build, but they don't seem to take to the Halford's Grey Primed surface. On bare plastic it is fine, but the Primer makes it like a wax-resist. I'll spray again this evening, but with Enamels
I think a bit of further experimentation is needed with the Acrylics when spraying - it would appear they work best when brush painted. _________________ Owen

I sprayed it up again, this time using Enamels just to play it safe. It went on well, I don't think it'll need another coat.

Everything is now masked up and ready for spraying. I've decided to go with the Blu-Tack method. I've tried it before, but it hasn't worked before but hopefully the new brush will solve this. The masking has taken around an hour and a half, so I hope it works! The instruction sheet has some pretty grainy diagrams, making it hard to establish which bits go where
Also, does anyone know which Squadron/Group the GR3 from this boxing is when portrayed as the Green/Grey camo varient? The instructions I have are the ones that only tell you its a GR.3, not the details of the individual aircraft. _________________ Owen

They both come from 1 Squadron, if that helps
Strangely my boxing from the 1990s' has a picture of the aircraft on the back and a good clear image of the Squadron badge. Actually quite a nice system (at least i think so!) _________________ ATB

My feeble research leads me to believe it's RAF No. 1 Sq. during the Falklands War. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

XZ992 was with No.1 (F) Squadron at Wittering on 29th March 1982 and by April had been allocated fin code – Red 05. Left Wittering on 28th May for the Falkland Conflict, returning to Wittering on 16th November 1982. _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

I've got a bit more done today.
Masking removed and Blu-Tak cleaned up. I'm quite impressed with the method. For a first try it has come out quite well.
I've also got the decals on the wing bottoms before I fit the pylons/weapons. I'm not very impressed with them though. Both codes broke up when I was applying them and with two coats of Klear down the look like they'll silver This picture doesn't show it because they've just had some Micro Sol applied

Groovy. I was wondering how that speed brake would look closed. It fits good. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

So thats what it was. I wasn't sure weather to put it up or down. It's too late to change now! _________________ Owen

I'm afriad that I didn't take a picture of it masked up. Simply, the "Blue Tak method" is to try and achieve blurring betweek camouflage lines. By rolling up thin sausages of Blu-Tak and putting them where the camo needs masking (filling in other bits with masking tape), when spraying the spray does not quite get behind the masking tape enough to make a solid line. _________________ Owen
