Well this is one GB I'm really hoping I will be able to complete, but I'm going to have to strictly stick to OOB other wise I know AMS is going to kick in and ruin it. (again)
What do you reckon the chances of Airfix getting the mossie out for Telford are?
If not I have the Spitfire Vb kicking around in the stash. |

Okay... slight change of plan
On opening the spit which was given to me by an ex-colleague who said he had no time to build it or anywhere to put it once complete I've found that he had started it (engine is nearly complete).
Bit of a shame but yesterday at SMW in the moments before we left I impulsively bought a Hurricane to go with my Spit!
So that will be my subject for the group build. Sprue shots to follow. |

Don't you just hate it when that happens! , looking forward to seeing the Hurricane, I hear it's rather good.

Managed to make a start today but appear to be missing 1 half of one of the exhausts (will email Airfix later when I've worked out which number it is) and I'm not sure what to do about parts 4 and 5 so to those building the Hurricane can I ask what you did?
Basically part 4 is a Y shaped piece that goes inside the engine block it has two stubs which face forwards at the top and a large cut-out on one side. However in reality this piece is reversed. ie to have the cut out on the side shown the stubs would have to face rearward.
A) does it matter? - I can't see that it attaches to anything later
B) it's listed as an alternative part, alternative to what?
Cheers

A) I put mine in but can't see what they do (unless they were something for mounting the prop-motor on )
B) Maybe the square box means optional part - like the exhaust shields _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

| Thanks Ratch - I'll just pop it in as well then, adds a bit of strength to the assembly if nothing else, and you're right it's an optional part, not an alternative. |

Right, an update at last.
I stalled because I was not happy with the Magnetos and the ignition harness - the megnetos have sink hold in them and the harness seems to be missing a lot of detail - I think I've overcome that issue but that will be another update.
So main engine block primed
and parts sprayed gloss black
I then sprayed alclad II Steel (sorry no photo) over the gloss black. Entire engine then had a covering of Revell Anthracite and then the head covers and sump were sprayed Humbrol 85 coal.
Once this was done I scratched back the paint to let the steel show through on the engine bolts and the "Rolls-Royce" lettering (I don't know if that lettering in steel is prototypical but I don't care )
Also did a bit on the firewall and frame adding the oil/air separator and the black box (not sure what it is) - these will be plumbed in later.
Very much enjoying this build so far, sorry for the slightly blurry photo's I'll use my tripod next time.
Cheers
