PB are really messing things up this time.
I got hit at 05.22.
They won't display my photos unless I pay them monthly fees.

A lot of modellers are being hit; there are several threads on Britmodeller and other forums about this.
Photos are being turned into graphics
Image

I had to change photo hosting site about 1 1/2 years ago.
I tried some of the other sites but they didn't work out
Time to do it all again
Time to waste doing it all again

I know you'll all suggest other sites but many of them didn't suit me for various reasons

I've had an e-mail asking me to upgrade at $399 a year...
Yeah like that's going to happen. I don't respond to what is effectively blackmail.
Lots of forums are reporting the same thing so it's not just this forum
Not sure what to do right now as I've hundreds of photos linked but Photobucket will not get a penny off of me!

Guys, I have two photobucket accounts, my initial one the free one and this has been blocked, my other one I went "ad free" as I was sick of the adverts slowing down the system to a pace equivalent to a snail with cramp. That one is still working fine, the cost of the "ads free" option is about £12 a year.

I'd check out their pricing options rather than what they are recommending.

PB have changed their usage policy; unless you pay the $399 you can't put your photos on a forum - a '3rd party hosting'
Thats the only option they are currently offering for allowing 3rd party
They offer two lower priced deals but neither allow 3rd party

Well if there is a Lynx below, I beg to differ.

I certainly do not pay them £300+ a year, and never would.

At the moment they seem to be hitting the free accounts; as you have already paid they cannot legally change your deal now but they might at the next payment renewal date

Just logged into my Photobucket account. They really are trying to get rid of free accounts. I was bombarded with ads every minute or so. Makes it almost unusable. Up the creak without a paddle. Loads of the photo hosting sites no longer offer 3rd party hosting. I can see treads getting very boring text only. The only offer I had was $399 a year. Really not worth it. Sorry folks. Any suggestions for alternative sites? Although the thought of redoing my photos links is daunting :hithead:

I found on PB an account available for $2.49 a month recurring. I tried, several times, to take this offer and it just won't go through

I just wanted to see if PB really did still have that cheaper offer, but as I couldn't get to the final payment part [which I could stilll have cancelled at] I think they have stopped it in favour of the higher priced deals

I can recommend Flickr. It's free (at the moment) and offers 1TB of space.

Interesting suggestion, but PB has been doing this for nearly 2 weeks. If they'd been hacked they would have said by now

I switched to Flickr at the start of the year after PB kept going slowly and most of the time not working at all, it does take some getting used to, but it works soooooo much better than PB.

I have a lot of photos on PB that are linked to this and other sites, and I am in no way going to trawl through 8 years worth of WiP/Portfolio and transfer them to Flickr and repost them.

Even if it would, it would not help you. According to PB's own Plus Subscription Pricing & Info page they have five account types:

    2 GB - Free
Ad Free (no additional storage or bandwidth) - $2.49 / Month
    50 GB - $59.99 / Year
    100 GB - $99.99 / Year
    500 GB - $399.99 / Year

Only the Plus 500 would help in this respect:

Plus 50 offers 52GB of Storage and No Linking or 3rd Party Hosting
Plus 100 offers 102GB of Storage, Unlimited Linking and No 3rd Party Hosting
Plus 500 offers 502GB of Storage, Unlimited Linking and Unlimited 3rd Party Hosting

Plus Ad Free accounts will probably be the next category they will shut down, after all free accounts violating the newly imposed rules are closed. I've given up on them and any other such service for that matter. I bought myself a domain name and hired hosting space, and now run my own image server at less than a month's Plus 500 fee annually.

I agree. I find Flickr far more user friendly. The vast majority of aviation/airshow photographers I know use Flickr. I have been using it for over 3 years now and have never encountered a problem.

Chris, what are your Flickr details? Let me know and I can 'follow' you

Mark.

Set up a blog. You don´t even have to publish anything on the blog, just have Posts kept as a draft . Upload the pics, dozens at a time, straight from your PC..it´s very quick, takes a couple of seconds for ten or so at a time. As soon as you´ve uploaded they get a Google link which allows you to third Party post untill the cows come home. I reckon I´ve got 5000 pics on my blog, all free.

I hope picture trail does not go the same way as I like it . I am not that brilliant with computers but no the basics . I think I will try a flicker account as well if I can sus it out lol . I think what photobucket are doing is disgusting bye the way they should at least let you move all your pictures for free . I think they are holding people to ransom .
