My wife and I are contemplating a trip to the UK next year and I thought it would be nice to take in a model show where I can meet some of the fine people on this board. I was thinking of England specifically, just because I'm more familiar with sites of interest there. However, I would be open to the other isles also. I've never been to Europe before, so it is all new to me! I may even bring a couple of models to display.

I was wondering if there is any model show in particular which draws the most ATF members. Is there an Airfix factory tour? Gift shop? I would appreciate any suggestions you can give me. Please keep in mind that I am just beginning to learn the geography of the UK.

Thanks guys!

Johnnyb

Biggest show where you'll find a good many ATFers is the IPMS 'Scale Model World' at Telford in Shropshire, first or second weekend of November each year.
There are many lesser shows throughout the summer season. Some of these are held at the museums, such as the RAF one at Cosford, or the Fleet Air Arm at Yeovil
Hornby has a visitors centre. Ratch can give you the low down that.

The Hornby Visitor Centre was in Margate, but I believe they're moving it - best check on the Airfix site
The Centre is open all year, but shows will depend upon what dates you're visiting

I'll have to suggest Salisbury, its on the usual tourist routes (Cathedral/Magna Carta/Stonehenge) but it also has TWO modelshops, and an active IPMS branch who hold a show every year late May/early June. There are also two aircraft museums close by (Old Sarum and Middle Wallop) and if you have a hire car the Tank museum at Bovington is less than an hour away.
