A heads up

Can all members who wish to post pictures please read the stickies regarding naming & numbering conventions and before posting pictures within each section

Some sections are becoming very untidy with threads duplicated

Please help us try to make it easy for others wishing to view builds of the same model in one place

Also excessively sized pictures continue to be posted

Please remember to restrict the size to 800 pixels MAXIMUM

We don't want to have to resort to Read the rules

so posting correctly will keep things orderly and save me having to get draconian and deleting images

Stickies by their very nature are found at the top of each forum, so it it impractical to link to all of them. Each picture gallery forum has a "sticky" at the top of it's thread listing explaining the rules of posting the pictures.

Generally, before I post some photos of a model I do a search to see if there's a thread concerning that model before I post.

But I've a question to ask, I would like to post some photos of some models which I made quite some time ago, I know who the manufacturer is of the majority of them but box numbers will be a huge problem, as the boxes and instructions are long gone. How do I go about posting my photos in the correct thread?

I'd just take a best guess and mention in the description that your are not 100% sure, just in case it's wrong and someone gets disappointed with a scheme that's not available to them.

In the case of Airfix kits, the History of Airfix Kits section lists every Airfix kit ever made and lists model numbers, dates etc.. So, it should be possible to identify the particular release. Our reasons for wanting all of the same Airfix kits in the same threads is that we want to incorporate all of the member's build photos into the History of Airfix section. If they were not altogether, then it would be impractical to try and find every one dotted around the forum. For other manufacturers, it is not as important to have separate threads for individual kits. However, if there is a thread for a particular kit, then don't put other kits in that thread. So if there are two threads for Revell Spitfires, say, one a general thread with various Spitfires and the other for a specific release, then if you are not sure if yours is the specific release, bung it in the general one.

As for your "mystery" builds, Robert, I'm sure somebody will be able to help identify a manufacturer or particular release for you Robert, if you post them all in one thread. Could be the start of a regular competition!

How do I get them to the site.

Sorry if these seems a bit basic to you but I'm still learning this black art of the internet, and different sites have their own requirements and methods.

There is a thread about posting pictures, here. Note that there is a max width of 700px so reduce all pictures to that size.

I can see how to size pics by the number of kbytes but not by ???x ????

My software lists them by file name and file size.

I suggest you download Irfanview, which you can dowload for free and allows you to manipulate image size by pixels. It does a lot more besides, too.

original pic :

1408 x 1056

= file size 470Kbytes

filtered through Irfanview:

700 x 525

= file size 1.05 Mbytes

A smaller picture but needs more disk space ???

Loll, after resizing, select File -> Save As... -> Save as type: JPG - JPEG Files -> Done. You probably saved the file in another format which results in a huge file size.

IrfanView remembers the last file type you selected. It also remembers the last folder you saved into. Looks like the first time you use it the default image type is BMP (instead of the more logical JPG) and some weird windows directory (instead of the same directory as the file, or the desktop). "Making things simpler by making them more complicated."

May I just remind you that personal Portfolios should carry one image only of each model

Multiple images may be posted in the appropriate Galleries
