As the Lifeboat seems likely to hove into view early in the new year. How about doing an immediate Lifeboat GB to honour the first product from Airfix/Hornby. Otherwise, if it gets slotted into the existing programme it will probably be September before a slot opens up. Just a suggestion, what does eveyone else think?
Best
Rich.

p.s I know it's not the correct way to nominate a GB - I'm just shaking the tree to see what falls out (hopefully not an annoyed Chimpanzee )

I seem to be signing up for every group build under the sun, but heck why not!

As you may know, next year, besides the probable 20+ GBs selected by the forum members, there will be some GBs selected by and led by me - my "Boss Builds". It had always been my intention to lead GBs of the four Airfix 1/72 boats. I am currently leading a GB of the German 'E'-Boat and I had earmarked the following boats:

Second Quarter - April - RAF Rescue Launch
Third Quarter - July - RNLI Lifeboat*
Fourth Quarter - October - Vosper MTB

(I also wish to lead a TSR2 - "What-if" GB too at some point)

It now seems that other members have alternate plans for the Lifeboat GB! I am more than happy for it to take place at another time but might I be so bold as to suggest the Lifeboat GB be a "Boss Build" starting on 15th March or April 2nd (April Fool's Day doesn't seem right to me ).

This should give people enough time to get the kit - assuming that it finally hits the shop very soon into the New Year as expected. We've been down that slipway before so it may be a case of wait and see! If the build takes place when I suggest, then I could both lead and take part and push back my RAF Rescue Launch "BB" to the third quarter.

Dave

BTW Rich, just in case you had me in mind, I am not annoyed, much less a chimpanzee! I'm more like King Kong:

It did cross my mind that it could be one of your unannounced projects Dave and as for comparing you to a Chimpanzee, well, they are highly intelligent, social animals, so no comparison whatsoever (ducks and runs for cover!).

I just thought it would be nice to do a new Airfix/Hornby model sooner rather than later, given as you point out, the very crowded existing GB programme. A March build seems a good starting point as a "Boss Build".

I also thought of possible "sunset" GB's if Hornby decide to retire some of the more venerable toolings. JE*J's last sortie etc, similar to some of the stuff that happened with the Tomcat retirement. Just ideas though - no need to sign up farmroad 38 .

What's with all the boat builds anyway - anybody would think you liked them or something

A "farewell" GB sounds like a good idea - once we know what are going for good. Mind you, we'll probably end up buying so many of them before they do finally disappear that we might have enough to last for many years of "farewell" GBs!

As for the boat builds, somebody has to stick up for the elite side of modelling! There are far too many wingy things being built (including those by me).

I was already starting to type the reply before I'd got to the end of the sentence...

I also noticed that you'd introduced a colour scheme to show the status - can't remember if I mentioned it at the time, but it does make it easier to read.

No you hadn't mentioned it but I also found it a bit difficult to read once we had more than three GBs!

Yes, and as I seem to be signed up to every single one , it's a page I tend to visit fairly regularly to work out what I'm supposed to be doing this month, so the updates are much appreciated!

I noticed that in the GB 2007 Calendar, the Lifeboat GB is scheduled to start on the 1st of September. Is there any chance we could bring it forward a month because I don't think I can last very long knowing that it is gathering dust in my stash cupboard!

Sorry, Owen. 1st September is the date shown and that is the date it's going to be. If it means anything to you, I am frustrated seeing my RNLI Lifeboat box sitting on my desk as well. I have thought about building it now on a number of occasions (and buying one for the GB as well).
