I was informed today that Russ Snadden the force behind the restoration of Bf109 'Black 6' died on March 3rd after a two and a half year battle with cancer. He saw the project through despite many obstacles put in his way. It was 40 years ago this month that I arrived at RAF Northolt for my last tour of duty and I was soon introduced to the 109, a project I stayed with until it moved to Benson. Although I left the RAF at the end of 1978 I continued to travel to Northolt to help Russ and the team with the hard work needed to bring this aircraft back to the skies. Russ was a pilot with 32 Squadron flying the HS125. He was a fun person to work with; intelligent, witty and charming.

You've 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' Russ, blue skies sir.

Very sad news, Black 6 was testament to his dedication and I count myself privileged to have seen her airborne. I stand to be corrected but I think Russ Snadden supervised the reconstruction after the mishap at Duxford? RIP.

Always sad to hear such as this but what a great legacy to leave. RIP
