Hi all,

My Dad has gone and bought his first model in about 40 years. He has bought the Revell Routemaster. I have already been getting phone calls about tools, and stuff, but my question is what paints should he buy?

I know all about enamel and acrylic, and the different companies. What I am looking for is colour accuracy. for example is he better off buying a Humbrol or Revell red for the exterior, and so on. Or are the colours in the instructions the best that there is? I don't know what colours he does need, but I thought someone out there might be able to point me in the right direction as to which colours in which range are best. I want to also avoid the normal Revell trick of mixing 75% of one with 25% of another. The more straight forward the better.

He's on about getting an airbrush kit. As I'm not sure if he will make many models I have told him he might be better off using a rattle can, so is there is a Halfords can he can use, mainly for the exterior

Many thanks,

Mark.

Not sure if I'm too late replying to this but I'm now building my Routemaster and am using Halfords spray cans.

Good colour matches are....

Interior Red....Citroen Venetian Red applied over Red Primer

Interior Cream....Ford Ivory White applied over White Primer

Exterior Red....Audi Brilliant Red applied over Red Primer

Halfords do a spray Aluminium which is good for the chassis

There is a dedicated Flickr group with lots of useful photos at

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. You are not too late. He hasn't started it yet. He's been dusting off his modelling skills on a Spitfire and refulling set. I'll pass this on.

Many thanks

Mark.
