I'm still kind of keen on the Churchill Gun Carrier idea. I was thinking of maybe using one and a half widened Airfix 1/76 Churchill VII hulls with a scratch or cannibalised superstructure and a truly monster gun.....But then I remembered the roadwheels!
Presumably any 'Operation Sealion' build would be acceptable here? How about an Airfix Matilda OOTB instead?
The cop-out from converting it properly premise would be that Matilda IIs that would have gone to North Africa, were instead used in defence of the homeland?
If that's too weak, I suppose I could have a crack at another Airfix PzIV Ausf D.....This time with some 'Tauchpanzer' tweaks.
All the best

OK.....I'm finally almost underway.
I'm going for another Operation Sealion model; this time an Airfix 1/76 Tank Mk.I/II built as a war memorial that has been reactivated and pressed into service by the home guard.
For what it's worth, all the best

To the puppy's considerable irritation, I am finally underway with my "Mk.I/II War Memorial":
I have to say this is a very nice kit despite its age......A lot of thought clearly went into the design and it is both similar to and every bit as good as the much newer Emhar 1/72 Tank Mk.IV kits. I'd go so far as to say that Emhar copied the Airfix design and their only improvement was to cut the awkward tracks into two sections. I may well follow their lead in this as I've heard numerous horror stories about the fit of the tracks in this kit and my tracks are of the dreaded non-stick silver vinyl variety.
Anyway, to preserve the safety of my one remaining camera USB lead.....I'm off to walk 'Marbles'!
All the best

I'm back and the tracks are on.....What a battle it was too!
Each run is about half a link short.....I'll have to use a small section of plastic card to fill the gap.
I've also finished building the sponsons and I'd say that these are better designed than the equivalent Emhar parts.....They are probably more accurate to their type too!
Despite the incredibly difficult tracks I really like this kit.....Well done to Airfix for rereleasing it this year, along with an all new 'Female' version!
All the best

I still have to do a little bit more tidying up before undercoating, but my build is now more or less complete:
I'm currently looking for a commander figure and I also need a new potential Pike.....The 'Carpet Monster' in here is getting plain ruddy greedy!
All the best

My Mk.I/II is has been undercoated with GW Chaos Black, then basecoated in finest Hu30!
Now for some utterly fictional markings and maybe even a camouflage pattern!
All the best

Cheers Ratch, I've really enjoyed this little kit and highly recommend it.
A Splash of Colour
The red lines are a lot straighter than they look in this picture.....Honest!
All the best

Have you considered making your own? If it's just text you want, particularly if it's black, it really is dead easy. You can get inkjet or laserjet decal paper and where text is concerned you just need to find the right font, write what you want and print away - you can even do it in Word if there's no art involved. I haven't mastered colour yet I have to say, but for individual aircraft serials it's great, much easier than fiddling about with tiny individual letters and numbers. |

Cheers lads!
The filters and underlying weathering are done.....I've gone fairly light on this as I imagine "Victory" having it's Ricardos refitted (maybe fired up once or twice) and a repaint before being issued to the Home Guard:
I tried to force one of my earlier filters to dry using a lamp and created some nasty tidemarks.....This required me to take a few backwards steps before the weathering was sorted to my satisfaction.
Next up Klear & Decals and then it joins the Scammell for Pinwashes.
All the best

The decals are on.....Many thanks to walrus for providing them!
The ‘Klear’ has done its usual trick of turning the contrast up, revealing the weathering.....Plus a couple of tidemarks that I'd missed!
I'm so close to the finish that I can taste it.....Not tonight unfortunately though!
All the best

In a manner of speaking, yes.....I decided that attempting to put them on straight would be a fool's errand, so I tried to put them on in an artful arc, with only limited success!
Imagine, if you will, what Pike and Goddfrey between them might acheive with some emulsion and a few stencils!
More pics when I've done the pin-washes, flatcoat and final weathering.
All the best

| i should have sent the smaller decals - but you would probably have been run over by the tank before you had chance to read what it said. :flat: |
