That first Grizzly was in an episode of Al Murrays Road To Berlin

One thing that is apparent from those photos is that both the M4 and M4A1's hatches are more sloped down towards the front than on the Airfix kit.

Here are some images of M4s. The damaged one is along side USS Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, USA, and the clean one is in the National World War 2 Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana. If you are travelling near New Orleans, please don't pass up the opportunity to visit this impressive set of exhibits. Though this museum is rather new, it has gathered an impressive collection. Most impressive to me is a very fine reproduction of a Higgins LCVP. This is the area of the United States that was denuded of pine trees in order to build so many of the landing craft used during WW2.

Here is stowage on the back of a Sherman - Jerrycans and ration boxes

This is what Sherman simple block pattern treads look like without their shoes!

And this is what Sherman bogies look like without their tyres.

This Sherman has taken a lot of abuse. Here the bogies have been removed (forcefully, evidently) from the rest of the assembly. There is no indication around the vehicle that this damage took place in combat and I have my doubts that anyone would be interested in bringing a broken tank back from abroad. Still, it appears that the tank might still be able to operate with this extent of damage.

A bit of close detail on a Sherman glacis.

The same area from another angle.

Finally, a pistol port on the turret.

Like the Crocodile next to it, this M4 is in a poor condition living close to the sea and all that salt in the air, the information board has this as a Canadian built Grizzly. Dipping into my Haynes manual on the Sherman, the grizzly was based on the cast hull of the M4A1 but had thicker hull armour and different tracks and sprockets.

The following pictures, taken at the Tank Museum Bovington, are of a very special Sherman, this tank has a name, Michael, named after Michael Dewar of the purchasing commission sent to America to procure tanks, this is the 2nd Sherman ever made. He is only a prototype, not built of armour, just mild steel.

as you would imagine, the tank is based on the M3 lower hull and running gear, the front glacis plate has many features soon to be changed in production tanks...
