This will be a specific kit build, so, if interested, please pick your favourite from the list. The most popular choice will be the group build subject with the others going back into the pot for later builds. Only Airfix kits may be used
Cheers

Hi Brews
Whichever kit is chosen, modifications or conversions will be OK, the main rule is that it must be the Airfix kit of the subject that is used.

I have voted for a Centurion which will be an OOB build.

I've gone for the Crusader (I have 2 and intend to build each option) although I could have gone for the PzKpfw IV for the same reasons _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

A Panzer IV or Sherman would do me alright. I voted for a Sherman as I've never made one _________________ Owen

I voted for the Pzkw IV because a late Brumbaer conversion would be pretty easy. _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

I am sure that I have seen a conversion of this somewhere, it may even have been in an Airfix Magazine.
If my memory serves me correctly, a vac formed part was used for the main super structure. I shall have a check through some of the magazines that I have to hand tonight.
Cheers

There certainly used to be a vac-formed conversion, very likely in the days of the small format Airfix Magazine. Out of my price range at the time.

Yes, I am sure that I have seen it in one of the smaller Airfix Mags. I have several with small scale conversions in that I dug out of the main stash of magazines that are still stored at my parents house. For some reason my Father always seems able to fit them into the conversation when I am visiting, can't think why

Ok, just checked through the Airfix Magazines that I have to hand and have found the Brummbar conversion along with a couple of others .
The Brummbar is in the May 1972 issue and uses a vac formed conversion kit from Argyle models.
There is also a StuG IV conversion in the January 1972 issue, this uses the Panzer IV and StuG III kits.
In the September 1971 Magazine there is a conversion to the Jagdpanzer IV. I quite fancy having a go at this one myself.
Mentioned in the Brummbar article is another conversion for a Hummel, this apparently appeared in the November 1971 issue, I must have missed this one so wil have to have another look through, must have it somewhere
I also found, in the March 1974 magazine, a conversion for a Panzer III recovery vehicle using the StuG III kit, I wonder if this could be adapted to a Panzer IV recovery vehicle (if there was such a thing ) using the panzer IV kit.
If anyone is interested in any of the above articles, I will happily scan them.
Cheers

I definitely am interested in the scans, Stu.
According to www.achtungpanzer.com , 36 Bergepanzer IVs were produced between October and December 1944 (or possibly March, 1945) _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

No problem Brews, I will take the mags into work tomorrow and get them scanned up, will e-mail them over as soon as possible afterward.
Thanks for the info on the bergepanzer IV, another conversion to bear in mind. I was also taken with the bridgelayer-Bruckenleger IVc, now that would make an interesting conversion
Cheers

It would, Stu, and not too difficult, either. That photo shows both top and bottom of the bridge!!! _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

With all the added fun of backdating the Panzer IV to the Ausf C

It might be worth splitting off the Panzer IV conversion posts to a separate thread.....
BTW, I think the October 1971 Airfix Magazine had an article on converting the Panzer IV to Ausfs D and J. I'll have to dig it out.

And if we use the transferrable vote system, the Panzer IV is winning (Owen & I have expressed interest in this one) _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Well this has run for two weeks now so I think that we can safely say that those that are interested have cast their vote. All except me that is
I have been holding back my vote in case a tie break was required but would otherwise have voted for the Panzer IV which would create a draw
So in the spirit of democracy, the Centurian will be declared the winner but I would humbly put forward the Panzer IV as the subject of a second Tank Group Build to commence on the completion of the Centurian Build.
Could any comments please be added in the Military Vehicles GB chat thread (which I am about to set up) as this one will now be locked.
Could all of those that voted to build the Centurian make yourselves known in the Centurian Roll call thread (also about to be set up) this is not the official usergroup section, which I believe Dave will set up once start dates have been organised, but simply a quick way to establish who exactly will be taking part.
Cheers
