How many times have you seen some great box art only to open up the box and be a bit dissapointed with the contents?

Well, this kit is a reverse dissapointment!

The box art is a bit boring and indifferent. One that you could easily pass by.

But open the box and look at the kit! It looks really good. I have no idea if the fit is good or not as I havn't built one -yet! But it's moved up my 'To do' list.

Here's what the History says...

Junkers Ju 87R Stuka 9 05100/05100
1/48 scale. Listed in 1981 catalogue as 05100-4 but not released before Palitoy takeover. Available from 1981 to 1984. Reissued from 1991 to 1997. Also issued by Heller (France) with metal and photo-etch in the Hi-Tech series as kit number 80541 (1992 to 1994?). Announced for release by USAirfix in 1980 as kit number 4804 but not issued. R. Humm

The sprue shots. It almost looks like scaled down 1.24th.

Look at the cockpit wall detail

The decals natually don't have the Swastikas but you do get the choice of two colour schemes. Eastern Front or North Africa.

The only real dissapointment is despite all the detail in the cockpit the instructions don't tell you what colour all the bits and pieces are -which is a shame- it just gives basic overall colours.

Anyone made one? How did it go?

Would you buy one if it came out again?

It looks like a great kit. Available at only £9.99 from King Kit.
Like the Henschel you had on a few weeks ago I may be tempted to purchase one.

I've got one of these lurking in the stash somewhere. Haven't really had a chance to look at it, so glad to hear it's a good'un.

Does the 1/24th Stuka have the colour call-outs for the cockpit? If it is a scaled down version, then that would be a good reference I guess.

Good point Adrian. I did the 24th scale Stuka a while ago and the painting instructions are more detailed, so I'll refer to them when this gets built.

I don't think this kit is actually a scaled down 1.24th but certainly the quality of the moldings is good.

This is the boxing i'm building with a true details etched cockpit set...

I was going to build the 'Snake' version, but RG beat me to it...

This is a view of the 'Pit floor, with a few etched bits on it. The kit builds up nicely and relatively quickly,

The locations for the legs could be a little more substantial, but with care it's ok. and if you take your time putting the halves together, you can see through the bomb sight ! the only other dissapointment is the horrible view from the rear of the cooling gills. there is a ruddy huge location lug showing

i boxed it in with plasticard, scribed suitably to represent the rear of the radiator matrix... but the interior paints up beautifully.

All i need to get are some Canopy masks. thanks Hannants-for nothing !

I have the same boxing, won it in one of the ATF prize draws a while back

Good to know that there is a photo etched set for it. Certainly looks like a nice kit in the box, haven't seen many built up though.

Well now, after the 1/48th scale Spitfire Vb this is just about my favourite Airfix kit and I have lots of them!

The missing box arts are these:

The only thing missing from the kit, as far as I'm concerned, is the roll bar behind the pilot, as shown in the 1/24th instruction sheet here:

An excellent kit, and for my money more "Stuka-like" than the Hasegawa.

A surprising omission...

The roll-Bar is included in the Etch too. I'm glad you mentioned it as well, as i have to fit it BEFORE THE CANOPY... Cheers !

Thanks for showing the other boxings too. I really have some stuff to spray this weekend. It's just the Blasted Weather won't stay Dry !

Just thought too. i have to cut out a circle for the wing-Light. I wonder how i can do that? ...

I do have one somewhere, it was one of my rare diversions from 'The True Scale'

It's one I don't have, but definitely on my list. I'd rather buy that than the Hasegawa one because I think the Japanese kit's surface detail is too refined - the Airfix one is much more agricultural, as befits the real thing. Plus which, it's a lot cheaper too!

The Fuselage and wing rivets have Hubcap/ cheesegrater size and feel, which could, at a pinch, make it fel to some, a little toy-like, but as it goes, it's a smashing kit. (it's in front of me as i Type...)

I'd gladly take a pic or two, but it's too dark now to take any for my camera...

Thanks. i'm not entirely sure...

There are the kit options, but John Walker kindly sent me some others down too when i was doing the snake option. And i have a great Stuka Book choc full of others to choose from. I could probably make a lot of other machines up frm what I've got, plus some aftermarkets...
