Hi all,

I am currently building the Airfix US Army Abrams Tank (07361). I have done a quick internet search, and I can't seem to find any definite answer. What colour would the interior be? Would it be white? What colour would the underside of the hatches be? would this also be white or would the external colour be painted on to these surfaces?

Many thanks,

Mark.

As I understand it, interiors were white and hatches in the camo colour - but I stand to be corrected :airhead:

Thanks Ratch. That's what I seem to have found so far.

I can't speak for the Abrams specifically but the M60s I have been in, an M106 (mortar carrier version of an M113), M114 and M247 all had a pale green interior and not white. WW2 and post war (M4, M5, M41, M46, M47, M48) tanks were definitely white interiors. Interior hatch colours are the same as the exterior.

Thanks for the help. I think I'll go with the white interior. Thanks for the hatch colours. Onwards with the painting!

Mark.

Slightly off topic but Australia's M1A1 Abrams were delivered in the standard US desert tan camouflage. Nothing in the Australian landscape is anything like that colour but, at the time, an explanation doing the rounds was that it was a special paint finish that couldn't be altered or painted over. Approximately 12 months later, all of the Australian Abrams, and the M88 Hercules ARVs, were repainted in Australian three-colour camouflage. However, and this may be relevant to the original question, the interior of the hatches remained desert tan.
The interior colour of M113s in the 1970s was pale green but the interior of the M88 is white. I suspect that white is a safe option for the Abrams interior.
Cheers
David

Thanks David, I might just do that.
