OK, here's the idea that I've been mulling over for my contribition to the OSL GB.  Because of various other commitments I can't work on this to a preictable timescale at the moment.  I can at best build bits & bobs.  I think therefore that I should make my services available to fill vehicle and terrain related gaps in other participants projects.....Let me know what you need and I'll see what I can do

In the mean time I shall continue collecting and assembling the components for an OSL themed wargame using either an adaption of an existing ruleset (IABSM springs to mind! ) or a set of custom rules written by 'yours truly'.  I will try to stick to Airfix (& inevitably some Matchbox) kits wherever possible.

I would like at first to focus on Worcestershire's possible contribution to the defence plans were OSL to have taken place.  Madresfield Court, a local Tudor moated-manorhouse was to have received The Royal Family in the event of invasion.

I have in the past, inspired by Ratch's amazing Norhamptonshire Project, been tempted to have a go at modelling a small corner of Perdiswell Airfield.  In the thirties & forties it was a tiny and insignificant training aerodrome on the outskirts of Worcester.....It is also one of the places where I take The Dingo for a walk, a mere stones throw from where I live.

I'd like to combine these two ideas and to this end I envisaged a scenario that goes something like this.

Quote:
The Royal Family are ensconced at Madresfield court, well behind the lines, but reports come in of German Fallshirmjagers landing in the area, possibly with the intent of capturing the Royal Family and forcing The Commonwealth to capitulate. King George decides to stay and lead the defence of Worcester (We have a tradition for that sort of thing round here!) but the rest of The Royal Family are driven in a motorcade to Perdiswell where a DH.89 waits to fly them to safety.

Unfortunately Perdiswell Aerodrome was one of the drop points for the crack German Fallschirmers.....Boo, hiss!

But fortunately just as jerry was about to jump their JU-52 was attacked by a plucky Avro Anson and the paratroopers were scattered in the fields north of the city.....Hoorah!

Unfortunately the Anson too was damaged and forced to land at the tiny airfield.  It's heroic pilot hastily scribbles a warning note and puts it into a jam-jar, comandeers a handfull of grenades (pulling the pin on them and oh so carefully putting them into jam-jars too) and a Tigermoth and takes off, course Madresfield, planning to drop a note of warning to the motorcade on the way.

Will the defenders be able to hold off the Fallschirmers until the motorcade arrives and the DH.89 can fly them to safety?

Will our heroic pilot get through.....Will he drop the right jam-jar on the motorcade?   Nailbiting

Roll the dice and find out!

More as and when.....Let me know what you think!   Think

All the best

I'm working on a very broad list now.....Not including infantry and trying to stick to Airfix and MB kits.

British - Armour
1xFord 6 Ton (Matchbox Conversion)
1xTank MkI (Airfix)
2xDaimler Dingo (Matchbox)
2xMatilda II (Airfix)
3xMk VI (JB/Airfix)
4xBren Carrier (Airfix)

British - Softskins
4xMorris CS8 (1940 version, Airfix Conversion)
2xAEC Matador (1940 version Airfix Conversion)
1xK2Y Ambulance (Airfix)
1xScammel Tank Transporter (Airfix)

British - Guns
4xBofors AA  40mm (Airfix)
2x25pdr (Airfix)

British - Aircraft
1xAvro Anson (Airfix)
1xDH Dragon Rapide (Airfix)
2xDH Tigermoth (Airfix - So I can use both the Aeroclub props!)

German - Armour
3xSdKfz 222 (Airfix)
1xSdKfz 223 (Airfix Conversion)
3xSdKfz 251/1 (Matchbox)
1xSdKfz 251/10 (Matchbox Conversion)
2xPzKpf II Ausf C (Matchbox Conversion)
2xPzKpf IV Ausf D (Airfix Conversion - Possible Tauchpanzer)

German - Softskins
4x Kubelwagon (Airfix)
4xKrupp Protze (Matchbox)
2xSdKfz 7 (Airfix)
2xBMW & Sidecar (Matchbox)

German - Guns
3xPAK 36 37mm (Matchbox)
2xFLAK 18 88mm (Airfix)

German - Aircraft
1xJU 52 (Airfix - If Available)
1xJU 87B (Airfix)
1xBf 110 (Airfix - If available)
1xHS126 (Airfix - If available)

Only some of the vehicles in bold text might be involved in the preliminary scenario.  I'd need to do a more precise list once I'd decided what rules I'm going to use.  The advantage of 'IABSM' is it can be linked up with 'Bag The Hun' so that simultaneous airborne scuffles can be resolved.

These are still preliminary ideas really and all of this will require some considerable thought and a fair bit of cash before I can put the plan into action.....Hence my offer to help out with other bits in the mean time.

This list will no doubt be subject to considerable revision!

All the best

Sounds like it could be great fun Sarge, certainly make things iffy for the motorcade if there is a Stuka swanning about above

Cheers

In IABSM air support can be a bit unpredictable, you never know when or even if it will actually arrive or what it will do in the event that it does!

It's going to take me a long time to do all of this (having several hundred 1/72 kits to attend to too!   ), but if I can plod along at a steady rate I reckon a playable game could be feasible before the end of this year.  Think

I will also have to make some modular terrain including the Airfix control tower, a couple or three nissen huts, some gun emplacements and pillboxes etc.  Fortunately a lot of this can be prebought.  'The Mug House' at Claines will be on the edge of the battle area so I shall no doubt be investing in some Dapol buildings too!

For what it's worth & all the best
