1:600 SubmarineJust interested to know if anyone else has ever tried making one.
I'm progressing through the slow, boring fiddly bits with my same scale Atlantic Conveyor (see scratchbuild sub-forum) and quite fancy quickly knocking-up a waterline representation of HMS Conqueror to sail alongside, possibly complete with flying Skull & X-Bones.
But, there seems to be a distinct lack of any worthwile info. photos etc available on t'interweb. I'm not expecting too much for a nuclear sub but even a rough cross section would be good.
I know if I follow the route I took with the AC, (photos + guesswork) something might appear, but can anyone suggest something more scientific?

Never tried - submarines are targets
What you need is a booklet that used to be given out in Careers Offices years ago entitled Ships and Aircraft of the Royal Navy. That had line drawings of all ships/submarines & aircraft and would serve as a basic reference. Sadly it hasn't been issued for years. Alternatively I would suggest if you can get hold of an early 80s copy of Janes Fighting Ships that will probably have the info that you need.
I did find this image which might help:
You can just see the search and attack periscopes in the middle distance. Sorry - I had to include that!

Thanks for the photo.
Maybe that would be a better idea - periscope views only.
I've realised that all subs are basic tapered cylinders and any flat features are add-ons.

Forget 1/600... How about a 1/72 Oberon

You can get some 1:600 submarines from Skytrex ..... but be prepared ..... WWII submarines are only some 75mm long (3 inches)....... THAT is why you don't get them as 1:600 plastic kits!
