airfix 1:400 ships... are they traditional 'airfix' builds

hi, I've just completed HMS Montgomery, which although when finished looks good, I found an absolute pain to get together... mostly because of the poor reproduction instructions and lack of locating points. My question relates to the big boats in 1:400 ... HMS Hood etc. Can anyone tell me if the instructions are better/ same as the Montgomery.. and whether there are 'positive' locating holes/pins/lugs as opposed to vague positioning areas poorly shown on the instructions. By contrast I'm half way through HMS Belfast (traditional Airfix I'll call it), which is an absolute delight by comparison due to its clear instructions and positive locating pins etc. Thanks for advice... cheers

The 1:400 ships are Heller tooling, so they are different in style to Airfix originals and some of them seem to be, um, a bit challenging.

The 1/400 HMS Montgomery and HNoMS St Alban are reissues of the Mirage Hobby kits. All other 1/400 kits are reissues of the Heller kits. All 1/600 kits are Airfix originals.

Was the 1.600 Queen Mary 2 an Airfix tool?

It's one of those kits that you never really see built or talked about.

Cheers!

I believe the 1/600 Queen Mary 2 was a joint Airfix and Heller kit, as it was issued under both brands at around the same time. I myself have the Heller kit, as it was a lot cheaper than the Airfix one! The kit is not listed in this years catalogue, so I'm not sure if Airfix or Heller now have the tool. I think its likely that Airfix would have kept the tool, as the scale is 1/600. White Ensign Models still have the PE listed as "Coming Soon!".
