Allo allo

Hello all.

I was an obsessive model maker in my childhood, back in the 60's and 70's.  Then I put away childish things.  Now I'm cheerfully middle-aged and naturally have taken up childish things once more so I'm... an obsessive model maker.

Mostly I do early to mid-20th century military vehicles and figures, 1:72 scale for preference though occasional treats in 1:35.  Sometimes some superdetailing, often figure conversions.  Lately I've been getting going on artillery and WW1 aircraft, which are threatening to become a sub-obsession.

Hoping to borrow a digi camera soon then I'll post some pics.

In the meantime, glad to be here!

Thanks y'all.

It's like I never stopped really.  Found a box of my surviving old builds at my mother's last year, and have been gradually giving them the treatment they should've got when I first made them.

(Actual treatment back then was often build one Saturday morning, play with it in the afternoon, repair it Sunday!)  Sadly a lot of them fell victim to airguns and bangers.

I recall the 'splash' effect of a well aimed .22 pellet on a soft plastic 1:32 figure made for gruesomely realistic wounds.  The .177 was more suited for mock AA fire.  Then of course match heads or caps jammed into the pellet and the pellet fired reversed against a wall for a nice little bang and scorch mark... etc. etc.

Far too unsavoury and dangerous for youngsters today.

I've looked at a few modelling forums and I must say this is the only one I've been tempted to join.  Posters here seem to actually enjoy their modelling.  Thanks to all again for the nice welcome.  Fingers crossed I'll have some nice pics to post in the next week or two.

Hi B4en, I have only recently joined the forum and have thoroughly enjoyed it here since. Hope you will as well. Looking forward to see your figure conversion / WW1 / artillery stuff! Regards, Pat

Hi B4en

I'm in a similar situation - trying to reclaim my childhood modelling memories and being childish again, and it feels great.  I only joined on Wednesday myself and have had a wonderfully warm reception and spent far too much time on this forum in the last two days trying to absorb everything at once from some seriously excellent modelling talent here.  I hope you have as much fun as I'm already having and long live being childish!

Hey there Alfie.

I think we joined the same day? Who'd have thought middle age would be fun huh?

And yeah there are some lovely builds on the forum.  Uh... I mean models, right?  Uh... I mean...

Here's to it all anyway!
