Ark Royal QuestionHi Folks
I'm building a 1/48 Buccaneer from 809 Naval Air Squadron which was on Ark Royal in 1976.
I want to present it at the moment of touchdown so need to paint a board for it to land on and I know nothing about ships.
I found these pictures, one in colour is from 1970.

I'm presuming that the landing deck is the angled section. Which colours should I use for the deck and the centre line?
Thanks in anticipation.

I have an ancient piece of preprinted Ark deck section on Plasticard. The deck was in a very dark, almost black grey. From the look of the pic you posted, I'd guess that there was some kind of anti-slipping colour used. I think the section I have is from a different area than the angled deck, but I believe the warning surrounds were given as red/white. The center stripes in your pic, however, look almost like dayglo. But I'll rather leave the field to those in the know.

Although I cannot comment on colours, having been aboard the current HMS Illustrious I can confirm that the flight deck is a VERY rough surface that would almost certainly be noticable in 1/48th scale

Rough as in the back of a hardboard sheet?

According to my brother who was on the Ark in 1976, the "runway" section of the flight deck wasn't painted.
there were enough bits of paint flying off the white lines on take off that stung a tad!
May be able to dig out some info later.

Not quite as rough as the back of a sheet of cardboard, I guess that scaled down to 1/48th scale, something more like a sheet of 1200 grade wet and dry paper?
