Heller/Airfix GneisenauWell here is one I made earlier, so to speak, and just got round to finishing. The Gneisenau- the one nobody likes when compared to her sister Scharnhorst- now an Airfix kit. This one is a rebuild of one I found in the loft and must be at least 15 years or more old. A word of caution to those wanting to build this kit is that the hangar is totally wrong and the ship only got a proper one just before the Channel dash as depicted here. It had sliding doors and the aircraft was launched from a catapult inside the hangar- see photos. Upgraded with Toms Modelworks fret and a great deal more of additional cut and add bits such as a new crane base. I plan to do a 15” gun version with a lengthened hull, that is after I do her sister Scharnhorst.
