Hello and thanks.

After a period of respectful lurking and getting comfy with you lot, I thought it high time I raised my head above the parapet!

Another 40-year old returnee hoping to do things right this time. Up to my teens I had a great number of kits that were 'constructed' (I can't put my hand on my heart and say 'built'). The rashness of youth made me put my Lancaster in front of the fan heater to get the glue to dry quicker, left most of my models lacking some detail (canopies, stores, doors and even wings in at least one case) and usually coated with thick, streaky paint. I did buy two Tamiya kits at 15, a Lamborghini Countach LP500 and the Williams FW06. Those I intended to do properly but on leaving school and entering the workplace I suddenly found those available hours had vanished and they were destined to be skipped, unfinished.

Well before our wedding anniversary this year, my wife asked what I would like. At that moment my eye caught the 1/48 TSR.2 in the LMS window and so I said that. Stack me if she didn't remember and get me it!

Well, a better excuse to get back into the hobby I could not wish for. But I can't build the TSR straight away, dear, oh, no. It's a lovely prezzy and I want to do it right so I'll need to do a little practice first.   Within a month I'd got a stash of a dozen kits, mostly courtesy of Hobbycraft's clearance bins.

With the fine help and advice from this forum in particular, I'm tooled up and ready to roll! I've completed my first four 'experiments' and, in copying the mistakes and applying the great tips I've picked up from you guys , I think I might be getting somewhere.

So, slippers on, comfy chair, mug of tea. I think I might like it here! Enough guff, back to the building!

Thanks for a great site, guys (in an all inclusive and gender unspecific way)

Welcome.  Model building is like any other activity.  You learn by doing.  The bigger and more impressive the kit--the more important it is to take a deep breath and jump in.  Once you've made  a miserable mess of it, you'll need to refine your smuggling skills (tips available here) and get another TSR.2 and do a better job on it.  By the time you've done three of them you'll be able to show it off to applause all around.

Hi and welcome back.

In my case it was wargaming that almost got me off the hook (modelling hook) for almost a decadevbut then I reached 20+ armies painted and loads of unbuilt kits beckoned shyly from the shed...They won!

All the best

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

dancho: Hehe. I may have married for just a short time, but the smuggling I'm okay on. I find the trick is to resist the urge to fondle the plastic and leave the kit in the boot of the car. Then my wife knows I've done something but can't find any evidence. A few days later, walk in while she's busy, eye's forward, steady pace. Just like going through the nothing to declare channel at customs.
