Hello from Greece

Greetings fellow modellers,

I am a rather old hand having built my first 2 kits (Airfix...) in 1967. I still love to build 1/72-76, ground/air/naval, mainly due to space and cost (and also abiding by the dictum 'Quantity has a quality of its own'.). My main interest for a number of years centered on the Spanish Civil War and I have a site with my models if anyone is interested.
Main interest -at the moment- is turning to British subjects and also interim periods, like the 1920-30s and the early post WW2 era.
At present I am building an early war RAF Battle of Britain airfield dio based on a scenario with a twist! It is a 'What-if' continuation of a historical event, the post-Dunkirk interest by the RAF of acquiring Polikarpov fighters...But more through the forum if anyone is interested.

Thank you
Nic

Hi Nic and welcome

My site

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome,

1. The SCW site is in my profile, but here it is again:
http://www.geocities.com/espanavion/

2. Richard, whence the Greek? To ektimo idiaiteros... BTW, I posted a Youtube of a very, very low-flying HAF F-4 in the Aegean. I think you may enjoy it.

3. I already have found a host of wonderful stuff in ATF and wouldn't mind resting in hospital to get more free time to enjoy the pickings... Did that from a moto accident 2 years ago...modelling saved my mental health.

4. I am building (like I posted before) a smallish 1/72 dio of an RAF airfield in late July 1940, right after Dunkirk. It is probably St. Eval in Cornwall and depicts the possible (in the end, fictitious) testing of an initial batch of Polikarpov I-16 Type 28 in full 1940 RAF regalia and 234 Sq. markings, along a political Soviet Kha-1 single-engine transport and assorted early RAF vehicles. The dio includes a Hucks starter truck, also imported from USSR as the Ford equivalent had been phased out in Britain, plus many other goodies, like RAF Commer, radio truck, bowser and civilian and military personnel incl. the Soviet ambassador in London who had chosen to arrive by London Taxi (Oxford Diecast 1929 Austin) for reasons of secrecy...

The initial part of the story is fact : (Sir) Stafford Cripps, the new British ambassador to Moscow, an avowed Marxist, tried desperately to secure air assets from the USSR to ensure a Soviet-British pact. The request was turned down of course due to non-normalized relations with the 'colonial power', but the story sent me on the research for early RAF airfield info. I would appreciate redirection to a more appropriate section of the ATF and/or info on airfield accessories, photos etc.

Thanks

Nic

Thanks guys,

Need help with early AAA Lewis positions-photos etc. I understand there were no Bofors to speak of in June - July. Surely not in Cornwall...
