Hi Tom,
welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your time here and find it useful.
What sort of subjects are you interested in, aircraft, vehicles, ships etc, and what period, WW2, modern? Knowing would help us suggest some good kits for you to try.
Best

Hi Tom and to the ATF
This hobby is big, I mean really huge
There are so many subjects and ways to do stuff that it boggles the mind
You'll find lots of helpful tips on here, and lots of helpful people to give advice
The search facility can be useful and there's no such thing as a stupid question
Best of all, build what you like the way you want to do it

Hi Tom.
As far as tools go the following may be usefull.
Nail clippers or cutters or a simple craft knife if allowed,
Pack of cocktail sticks for stirring paint and applying filler,
Tube of humbrol model filler,
Fine sandpaper the grey stuff in 400,600,800 grit one sheet of each will last ages just cut them up into 10mm x 30mm strips.
As far as kits go look for the series 1 & 2 kits, for aircraft look at the box top for subjects with a single colour or two at most.
The Red Arrows Hawk may be a good choice.
If you wish to build Military subjects go for one of the wheeled vehicles like the Jeep with trailer or Landrover 1 tonne kits these are good easy builds.
Hope that helps Mick.

Hi Tom
how about the ex MPM wellington that Airfix have reboxed
(don't tell the others but i am only joking and i'm trying to wind them up )
The Airfix hurricane is a nice kit but i am biased towards the Hawkers planes
there are two Hurricanes by Airfix - the one to get is the Hurricane MkI NOT the MkI/IIb
some of the HobbyBoss kits are cheap but seem to have had good press

I'll add a vote for Hobby Boss.

I'll put my vote in for Hobby Boss too, avoid the Spits but FW 190s and ME 109s are brilliant starter models.

to the ATF!
I'd recommend the Airfix 1/76 Vickers Mk.VI Light Tank.....A doddle to build and they look great when they're finished!
All the best

Welcome to the ATF!!!!!
As someone has already put forward the Airfix Hurricanes I'll direct you to the 1/72 Spitfires and for a slightly larger straight-forward build the Beaufighter.
I will also endorse the Hobbyboss stuff

to the ATF, hope you enjoy it here.
I'd go along with the others regarding the Airfix Spitfires and Hurricane I and the Hobby Boss kits. They go together well and aren't too expensive.

Thanks for all the advice. I think ill go for a hurricane and Walrus i also love hawkers. I think ill buy 2 one for a practice and one for display. As i'm still inexperienced and will look to improve on any mistakes/ errors on the first kit.

Hi Tom and to the ATF, hope you enjoy the forum.
The Hurricane is a good choice, as walrus said the mk.I, kit number 02082 is by far the better kit. The Airfix 1/72 Spitfire mk.I and Vb are also really nice kits too. HTH.
