Hms Eskimo 1/600 airfix

Hi everybody
I don t receive the photodec set to finish my Mauretania build,so i have started another building.I want to make the Hms Eskimo a tribal class destroyer in his 1943 refit. For this i take the very very old Hms Cossack but on this kit all is wrong so i only take the hull and scratched all the rest..I wan t make it in a hard water, running through the sea in the storm...

walrus

Sweet as a nut Orionv! when you finish can you come and help with my HMS Daring please?

Looking forward to seeing the Eskimo when she is finished.
daniel7891

I'm looking forward to seeing this one, i'm sure it will be great
orionv

Hello all thanks for yours coments, mister walrus what is the problem with your Hms Daring?
Heinkel51

Your work leaves me speechless -
orionv

i am speechless too
walrus

Trouble is,
1. the hull seems to be the wrong shape.
2. the superstructure has suffered in the moulds and is off-centre
3. i can't get any plans, have pictures but not quite clear enough for detailing
4. i know as much about maritime architecture as quantum physics.
actually, i probably know more about quantum physics
(just don't ask me how the LHC works )
in short i don't really know what i'm doing.  Which to be fair, hasn't stopped me in the past.

I just loved what you are doing with the Eskimo.  Any advice would be gratefully accepted.  But that would be another thread - actually it is

http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/about10237.html

Would like to be fairly confident that things are sort of where they should be.
My father served on the Daring in 1953.  I want to do a good job of representing her at that time and I got the WEM sets.
thanks for asking
orionv

Well ,with my bad english it will be a little hard to help you but i tried....For the hull don t worry ,you work in the1/600 so if the size s are not correct don t worry it s not very visible (for exemple the eskimo is too long about 1or2 mm but i don t corrige this error. For the moulds damage it s a little worry. If you can t repare the problem make a scratch replacement superstructure (as i done for the eskimo) but i don t know if you are abble to do this? May be you can found another Daring on ebay ??For the plans it s the most hard to find, internet is the best way to find this sort of documents be patient and search. For me just before started a building i make a complete file on the ship i wan t make and i pass a lot of time on my computer... There is a lot of book about the british navy during the 50 s and of course for you it s very easy to find them. So i hope you understand me  good luck for your building and don t hesitate to ask me if you have any question for your building.

We must come from the same School of Shipmodelling

Looks like we're in the same boat, Ratch. Boat I thought it was just me that was all at sea - enough with the nautical puns already!

Orionv, you are a gent, and your English is fine!
To be fair, I will have a good attempt at solving the problems.  I just lack a little confidence because I don't build many ship kits. The personal attachment through my father means I want to get things as right as i can on this one.

i have also been doing what you suggest. i'm sure i will get there, if not to the quality of your build, at least you provide an inspiration to try and do my best.  That is the beauty of the forum!

The profile of the hull seems wrong, but I think I can put it right with some milliput-the problem has been getting reliable drawings.
Fan Publications are brining a book out later this year but again will not have drawings.

if these are the only problems i have, then life can't be too bad!
orionv

Hi all,the building goes on and here s news picts.

walrus

That's looking really good orionv

again it's inspiring - makes me want to get stuck into the Daring

keep the build pics coming!
orionv

Hello all,the building is near to ending, next stage the armement conception:the 3 120mm turrets, the AA turret, the pom pom the oerlikons and then  life boats, whale boat and life rafts. For the main metallic mast  a friend of mine made one in photodec.Today i don t have a lot of photos because the batterie of my camera was out...

walrus

so the Eskimo was a catamaran...

only joshing orionv  she still continues to impress immensely!  stunning!
orionv

  the british humour...
so this morning i take news photos with the AA rear turret and the pom pom and one of the life boat (the smallest).

Hi Remy-
wonderful- your models get better all the time- a true master!
cheers Stu
walrus

I'm off to the bookshop for a Theasaurus.  Quite clearly the adjectives and superlatives are going to be used up very quickly.
T16S

Er- isn't a Theasaurus some sort of dinosaur? Isn't it a saurapod of some kind, like a brontosaurus? What use is that and where could you get one? It certainly couldn't advise on descriptive adjective words could it- or am I missing something here?
cheers
walrus

Not having a theosaurus, I can't spell it correctly yet.

Believed to have become extinct due to the fact that they tried to compile a reptilian lexicon, and were therefore very vunerable to predation.

It's not easy keepin' an eye out with yer head in a dictionary.

It was one of the Airfix range of terrible lizards if i am not mistaken. Off Topic -just to save admin the trouble
orionv

As soon as i received the photodec main mast i started the paint job,i am in haste to do it....But there s a big mistake on the forward roof( captain bridge)... In fact the deck is not enought deep,1 or 2 mm are missing and it s too late to correct the mistake... The camo scheme is very interesting, white, pale grey, pale blue and dark grey   with a great wathering...yeah and a stormy sea See you soon .Rémy
walrus

Ahhaaa- the dwarves got the height of certain bits wrong I see (check above post) they must have been drunker than usual. When you weren't looking I slipped them a couple of crates of Newcastle Brown Ale AKA 'Looney Brew'.  Can't wait to see the paint job and be put to shame yet again!
