Large scale ships

I remember years ago in the late 70's, my dad brought home a part completed model of a sailing ship that one of his workmates had got bored of and donated to me.

If memory serves it was a large sail warship moulded in plastic and was close to 3 feet long! (although passage of time may make it seem bigger)

I have never seen any kits close in size ... does anybody have any idea what it could have been.

It came as a partially built hull with the rest of the parts in a binbag, no box or instructions, hence my lack of knowledge of its origin.

Any idea ?

Revell did some pretty big ships in their day, a 1/96 Constitution and Cutty Sark spring top mind. The latter would give you a hull length of almost 700mm.

Thanks Peebeep ... after following your hint, I am fairly certain it was Revells 1/96 Constitution.

I was thinking of getting one as a winter project ... but lawks! that rigging looks tricksy!

With model ships that is always the case.  Don't look at all the rigging at once.......

You only have to tie 1 rope in place ........................................at a time.

Concentrate on that one rope, repeat a few hundred times and before you know what is happening it's complete!
