Old guy; new here.

Hello from British Columbia, Canada.  I'm sixty-two years old and have been in my second round of model making for around twelve years.  I build aircraft and armour in 1/72 scale, and ships in 1/700.  I'm a slow builder who likes to add a bit of extra detail and my stash has, unfortunately, grown to around 1000 kits.  My current project is an Airfix Handley Page Halifax that will be presented to an eighty-six year old RCAF veteran who flew twenty-seven trips during the war.  This looks like an interesting site and I look forward to participating.

Welcome to the ATF.

Where in BC do you come from?  I`m off to Vancouver next month to visit to visit my son and daughter-in-law.

1000 kits?  Well, compared to you, I don't have a stash at all!  Thanks for making me feel better and welcome to the best forum on the web!

Wow!  Thanks everyone for the great welcome.
Roger 410, I live in Langley, B.C.;  it's about 40 Km. south of Vancouver.  I will email you my telephone number, so feel free to call me when you are here.  There is an aviation museum in Langley where I am a part time volunteer;  you might be interested in visiting it when you are here.  Google "Canadian Museum of Flight" to see more.
Believe me, everyone, my gigantic stash is no source of pride to me, so thanks for not "taking it out of me" for my insanity!  I  have been on my own for a number of years and have only myself to answer to when adding to it.
I worked many years in the printing industry, but about six years ago started in automotive parts.  It won't be long before my retirement and perhaps I will be able to build more then.
This looks to be a great forum and I look forward to participating.

Wayne.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it here tomregit.  Welcome to the fold fellow museum man!

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for your PM.   Was unable to reply via PM as that facility seems to have tripped out at my end and I can`t send PMs at the moment.   I don`t know what the cause is or how to fix it.

I was at Langley last year and intend to go back again this year.   I would appreciate a guided tour.

Can you send me a phone number and/or E-Mail address as I will just have to wait and see if the PM comes back on?

Hi and welcome,

All this discussion (well, mentioning actually...) of stashes has got me thinking. How about we organize a kit swap through this wonderful forum. I'm sure we all have kits stashed away we don;t need or intend to build and some of these may benefit others. No money transaction should be involved (obviously) except for shipping costs and the benefits to any or all can be enormous.

Hi Tom, hope that is OK, may I join in the welcome to the site, like you, I am getting on in years (70), also like you I have a substantial stash, and I am a slow builder.  Although I do not have dealings with an aircraft museum, I am ex RAF and I am a Trustee of the National Battle of Britain Memorial, which is at Capel le Ferne, near Folkestone, down here in the Garden of England.

Nikaki; I agree that a kit swap would be a great idea, I wouldn't have the faintest idea about organizing it.  My stash is recorded on a spreadsheet so I know just what I have and where it is.  There are some duplicates and redundant kits for which superior ones were purchased.
Robin;  It's nice to hear from someone with a similar amount of "life experience" .  I can certainly see why you might get involved with the BBMF.  I'm always open to chat through the "private message" feature; I'd love to hear a bit about some of your early experiences and how you came to your interests.

Welcome Tom.
1000 kits will keep you busy. Good luck
