can any one shed any light on this little mystery?
on sunday afternoon around 4.30 -5.30 a german warbird, we think a bf 109 ( but maybe a fw 190 ) flew over Ripley over the farm where i work, now the plane flew very low and made 2 or 3 passes over the farm. the farmer said it flew so low it was as if the pilot knew the area and almost wanted to say "hello".
the thing is i saw the same thing happen 2 yrs on the trot while at work on the farm a couple of yrs ago, when i saw it it had another plane with it though.
i did see something that i thought looked like a hurri flying over around that time but it didnt sound like a merlin engine and the farmer did say it had "german crosses" on the underside???? any ideas anyone _________________ Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. |

Ratch is right, that coulod be what it was. However, there's also a Bf 108 (close relative of the 109) flying in the UK, which has an inline engine and a large glazed canopy. _________________ "Is there anything you else you need to win the battle?" thanks guys, its just that this is at least the third time this plane has done this and would really love to know if there is a reason for it, does it have a connection with the area and in particular the farm?? might have to start looking locally for some answers _________________ Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. |

i think what i might need is a website that tells you what planes (warbirds) that have been flying on any particular time, i was maybe thinking about writing to Flypast magazine or something similar but you cant guarantee your letter will be published, any ideas???? _________________ Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. |

Hey all
If it sounded like a Spit or Hurri then it was this http://www.arc-duxford.co.uk/buchon.htm . It seems to be the most prominent 109 flying in the UK visiting most of the major airshows.
Didn't know they had gotten a 190 up and flying, thats great news . Is it a restoration or a replica? _________________ ''He changed the result by measuring it'' - Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth

There is a Bf108 or two about in '109' guise. One was at Shoreham airshow recently _________________ Bubbly! |

What happened to the Buchon that Mark Hanna died in. Was it a right-off ? Reasonably repairable ? Burn out ?
A FW 190 was being built from drawings in USA, that should be flying by now. I believe the intention was to build a few of them. _________________ Pax Britannica

I do not believe that the FW190 at Duxford has flown in this country although work has been carried out at ARCO and she has taxied. Various theories abound and I won't speculate as to why she has not flown.
At this years Flying Legends we had a visit from a French registered FW190 which looked and sounded terrific. Both are new build reproductions from Germany.
As has been said above, likely candidates are the Buchon or 108. _________________ Roger W. |

Great photos - thanks. It's also nice to see that when I was stood on my garden wall a few miles north of Duxford with my other half asking 'what's that?' my reply of 'it looks like an Fw190' was correct!

| I think that is the French one not the one that has been resident at Duxford for a while . I believe both are new builds as opposed to restorations . I believe the Duxford resident has yet to be approved by the CAA . As you are not sure if the aircraft you saw was a FW190 or a Bf109 , and you think it sounded like a Merlin engine , a Buchon would be a good candidate , I think there is at least one airworthy in the UK currently and it is camo with a red nose . |
