Vote here if you would like to take part in an Airfix Starter Kit GB. The kit should be one which has been released as a starter kit/giftset which includes, glue, paint and brush. The model should be primarily completed using the contents of the box.

This poll will run for 7 days and is single choice.

Were any final rules decided on this one?, I note you say that 'The model should be primarily completed using the contents of the box', are any extra colours allowed? or is it just the tubs of paint included to be used?, I just cannot bring myself to build and paint something in just 4 colours

Cheers

Likely time would be sometime after the D-Day GB finishes middle of September.

Rules were not finalised, but I would say built OOB using the contents as much as possible e.g paints, but supplementing with items not found in the box but readily available to a starter modeller e.g. sandpaper, filler, gloss cote etc. Does this sound reasonable?

I think that, rather than trying to establish hard and fast rules, each builder should tackle their subject as if they were 10 years old    Not necessarily the same as when they were 10, but as if they are 10 years old today
As a ten year old I'd have removed flash with a scalpel but I'd never heard of filler so paint was used (usually gloss) to bridge the gaps    I suppose we ought to use at least the type of paint supplied (potlets) and not try to correct inaccuracies or add any kind of detail (even paint-wise) - you get my drift

Sounds reasonable to me , count me in.

I was looking at the range of gift sets, there are some fairly nice kits among them, would just like to make an half decent job of it as I would have as a 10 year old, may not have been perfect but would have been as good as I could manage prior to discovering various tricks and tips.

Cheers

Yes, but only if I can find one here in Copenhagen.
That will be hard I can tell you!

What about a kit you can buy in a starter pack, but from another "normal" re-run, build only with the recommended tools and paint?

Jesper has a point - yer giftsets int available ere in furrin parts....

Does this mean we'd be obliged to add gluey fingerprints to the outside?

Only the canopy, which has to be fogged and with a big thumbprint on it   .

I shall be sitting this one out as I've been building a giftset FW190D-9 for the FW group build using only the paint and the brush that was supplied with the kit -  apart from a bit of Hu33 and Revell 90 for the tyres and U/C which came from other giftsets.
It shows what can be achieved if you have a bit of faith in the products.

Although with second thoughts, having looked on the Airfix website I've never made a Whirlwind or a P-51D or a Mirage and my LMS is selling their current stock below RRP. HAwk 128 for £4.99!
