Well here we are after two coats of Hu29 (Dark Brown). Also put the props in place just to get a feel of how it will look when finished (if I cemented then in place now they'd only get in the way and probably be damaged).
Today I've masked the areas to be painted Hu30 (Dark Green) and applied the first coat. I've also painted the propeller blades Hu30 as per the destructions. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Love your splinter.....Careful though, you could easily cut yourself on that!
I'm not sure Airfix have done you many favours with the colour call outs though, especially the Hu30 props.....I'd have thought schwarzgrun might be nearer the mark. No idea what the Humbrol code would be though.
For what it's worth, all the best

I think you're right about H30 being wrong for the props, Sarge. H91 is the Humbrol code for schwarzgrun, and it's currently available too! HTH
Paul, that splinter camo is looking good! _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

Thanks for the comments guys!!
Second coat of Hu30 went on this morning and that looks ok for the splinter camo, but I'm really not sure about the props. I might end up painting them black or just leaving them. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Well here's the third part of the splinter camo Hu30.
Looks ok for this but not for the props.
My brother's gone into town today for some Hu91. Rang up my LMS and he said they had some in stock so the props will be corrected by tomorrow.
Hope you're happy now Sarge, that £1 for the Hu91 was going to buy my chips on my home from the pub tonight, now what am I going to eat when I get the munchies!! _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Well the spare bombs from my Jaguar looked appetising until I found a tube of Pringles!!
Just before the Grand Prix highlights started I mangaged to get a coat of Hu65 (Aircraft Blue) on the undersides and a coat of Hu91 (Black Green) on the props.
Both of these will get a second coat tomorrow and some pics on Monday (unless the blue needs a third coat then pics probably won't be until Tuesday). _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Thanks guys.
She's had 2 coats of Hu65 and looking at it again it definately needs another. I'll do that tomorrow because I've just put all my modelling stuff away for the day _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Thanks again guys, it's amzing what you can do with Tamiya masking tape, where would we be without it?
Decided not to give the whole underside another coat of Hu65 as it turned out that only two small patches needed touching up, so I did that.
Tomorrow I'm going to paint the red bands on the tail fins and add the transparencies.
I won't post any pics until that's done because there isn't really much new to show. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Do you need swastikas for the tails or do you have some.....PM me if you need a set.
All the best
Sgt.S
PS - It might be better to paint the white first, then mask off a circle and then add the red. |

Good job you reminded me about that Sarge otherwise I would be cursing as I tried to paint white over red.
New plan for tomorrow is to paint the white first, then when that's dry on Thursday I'll paint the red.
Thanks for the offer for swastikas but I have the Techmod sheet and the Xtradecal sheet so I'm set for those. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

lol it's pretty much as per the instructions really.
I've just looked at the Xtradecal sheet and it has the white circles on some of the swastikas already so that will save me a job. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

All the painting has been finished now, did the last bit of touching up today.
Think I may have spoilt it a little bit by trying to paint the transparencies freehand, but the results aren't anywhere near as good as I would have liked to achieve. Next build I'll do what I usually do and mask them before I attatch them to the model.
I'll post pics tomorrow when the paint is dry and I've "Kleared" it. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Paul,
Have you tried using a cocktail stick to carefully scrape back any excess paint on the transparencies? It's yet another job that this humble tool is very good for!
