Started today with the assembly of the basic cockpit area.
This build will prob have the majority done in October as I have sporting commitments, studying for prelims and I do like to keep my social life alive
Kit looks quite well moulded which is encouraging

Painted interior. Filled holes in the seats and pilots/gunner.
Does anyone have colours for the figures?

Thanks

Hi Pim, I have a couple of pix of Italian pilots
1. in an all white overall with a white flying helmet with gold 'naval type' markings on the cuffs
2. in an RAF type blue suit with a leather jacket and flying helmet with gold 'naval type' markings on the cuffs
3. wearing a sandy-yellow 'sahariana' jacket & trousers with a soft service type cap with a white top, gold 'naval type' bands and a black peak

Thanks Ratch,
In the end I just chose colours which seemed right but I think it turned out alright ( Definately the best figures I've ever painted )

Have added struts on the interior ( Thanks for the idea Heinkel51 ). And weathered it a bit ( Inspiration from Hangertime there )

Just adding the last of the interior and windows etc. before I can close her up.

Cheers,
Pim

Colour scheme wise I have decided to do this:

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/b/314/32/0/17

The colours are much nicer and I can imagine they're easier to paint to  . On top of that The decals are fairly strait forward and I'll only have to source the three mice from somewhere.

Oh, and does anyone know perhaps what the top of the wings might look like?

As well, would anyone have a spare machine gun in the spares pile that would be suitable for the forward firing gun that I could use?

Thanks,
Pim

Progress is being made! It actually resembles an SM.79 now

A fair bit of filler and sanding was needed between the fuselages and in the wing roots but I'm pleases with how it turned out.

Next step is the engines.

I'm hoping I can get this finished by my 15th birthday on the 28th
Cheers,
Pim

That interior is a great improvement and I really like the worn effect on the floor!

All the best

Have been doing some research into schemes here and have so far come up with:

http://209.85.171.104/translate_c...LkJrhj8V47LgSAg8GgV7HcCr6YtMnk53w

http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/b/314/32/0/17

http://stormomagazine.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=1937#1937

Graham Boak also sent me this photo which there is a profile of in the link.

Sources:
Colori e Schemi Mimetici della Regia Aeronautica 1935-1943
Andrea Deg'Innocenti and Umberto Postiglioni
Club Modellismo Plastico Ravenna, 1977

So at this stage its looking like an aircraft from 205 Squadriglia

Can anybody tell me whether I should fill out the holes for the torpedo mountings or whether this aircraft used torpedoes?
I'm tempted to just fill them in

I can't help you on the torpedo for this particular aircraft (if in doubt I'd say fill them in, and just claim the aircraft had them removed for maintenance etc).

One thing I did spot, the locating tab for the central engines exhaust appears to be located on the upper right in your model. All the engines have the exhaust located in a lower left position, which you can see in this photo of a 41 squadron aircraft. You might want to change it around before painting.

Sorry for the horrible photos! Just got dark here
