I've done a bit of basic reshaping of the wingtips, nothing major. Primer has been applied and the first coat of Hu29 Dark Earth sprayed on.

Upper  camouflage applied, I'm hoping the darker areas on the green where some masking was, will disappear under gloss cote.

The night underside went on OK, now I'm finishing off the cowling rings and exhausts, plus the propellors. The landing gear doors and undercarriage have some ejection marks which need filling and removing before they can be painted and added.

Most of the remaining bits have been assembled and attached  - bombs, undercarriage, gear doors, exhausts. Wing tip lights painted on. The props are still free as I find it easier to do the canopy framing without them in the way.

The pilot's machine gun is aeroclub white metal drilled and fitted into place - it was a bit less chunky than the kit supplied bit.

Next step gloss coating for decals.

You leave the masking on the clear parts while you add the details??  You must have nerves of steel....

I'd rip that off as soon as possible!  I have no patience at all!

(Looks good, by the way).

I tried to use the kit decals, after they had been on a window for 2 months to reduce the yellowing. Unfortunately they were very stiff and didn't settle, applying microsol caused the codes to bubble up and not go back down, scoring them with a scalpel and re-applying didn't help.

So I've scraped them off and I'm re-doing the damaged paintwork, luckily I used aftermarket for the wing roundels, and Popeye seems to be doing OK.

I have home printed decals from a scan of the decal sheet for the letters and fin flashes. I think I will use a combination of letters and flashes printed on white paper trimmed too small, overlayed with letters printed on clear sheet at the correct size. That way I should get the density of colour and avoid the white edges of the letters printed on the white sheet.

I also realised I have the Falcon Vac canopy set for the Hampden     , ho hum supposed I'll save it for another one.

have you tried Microsoft - don't know if it would of worked in this instance - but it may have softened the decals enough to settle properly.

'tis a pity- what a bore!

re the canopy-am glad it isn't just me that forgets things until too late in the build, Rich!

The home printed codes didn't work out, so I've ordered some aftermarket replacements. I found the fuselage roundels and the tail flashes in the spares box from a MPM/SH Baltimore and Maryland. Hurry up and wait again!

Klear can make a surprisingly good decal solvent.  It may have worked on those letters.  Lay down a wet coat of Klear, then apply decal (quickly!) and pray.

I usually try to seperate potentially troublesome decals from the backing paper in the normal way.  Assuming they survive the seperation I will quite often dip them in klear before applying them to a pre-Kleared portion of the kit.  Once they are snug a gentle brush with yet more Klear smooths everything down.

I don't think anything would have helped with these decals, they were incredibly stiff, more like plastic card. Since my little adventure with Future on my Fulmar I'm a bit wary of using it for decals.

You don't seem to be having much luck with decals at the moment Rich.

a real shame cos the Hampden is looking great.  the hassle will be well worth it when it gets finished.
