That's my fault, I seem to have added the 70's into the GB, my memory is shocking. Honestly you just can't get decent GB leaders these days.....

It's rather like driving on the motorway, speed limit is the 70's, but everyone pushes it into the 80's

So what about these French jets then? Are they allowed in? Was France part of the Cold War? Are Mirages alright?

How about military jets in service between 1945 (end of WW2) to 1989 (fall of the Berlin Wall)?

We haven't done very many jet builds, only the Viggen and Harrier. So how about we say jets in service in Colin's timeline of  1945 to 1989, with a preference for the 50/60's, but if you want to take part and only have a later jet that's OK, so long as the scheme is suitable for the period (so no Gulf War Jags etc).

As for Dan's SAAF Mirage, well, the Soviets and Cuban's were supporting guerilla's and civil wars in countries around SA, so I suppose we could say SA was involved in the cold war by being prepared to fight against the spread of communism in Africa.

Hope that's sorted that out

I want to do two models at the same time--an F-86D and a Banshee.  Would they be one thread or two?

Have I just committed myself to two builds?

In for a penny, in for a pound - go on then Rich, set me up a second thread for the Mirage F.1 and I'll have a bash at both it and the Skyray.      Nailbiting  Airhead

In future, I'll  Silence

You know what, though? I've wanted to build that Mirage for 20 years now, after first seeing it at a model shop in Boston, Lincs, and regretted not buying it (or nagging my dad to buy it) for all this time. Seems like the perfect opportunity to me.

Probably be easier to have two threads, it will be less confusing that way.

You can just build the Mirage if you want, but the Skyray looks interesting and isn't a commonly seen kit. I have noticed the Mirage has been suggested on a pretty regular basis in the suggestions thread, so I thought I'd take pity on you

Nah, Rich, I'll be fine. Put me down for both! Your comment about the Skyray is what I was thinking, too. In fact, you don't really see many of either of these built up, do you?

Hi Rich,

I've decided to get in on this too, and build a second model.  Could you please set up a second thread for me, I'll be building the F-104 Starfighter.

Cheers,

Paula

In for a penny...

I will also build two, depending on the stock level on MFS i will build a Lockheed U-2 or a Saab J-29 Tunnan

Will that require a sperate thread?

Thanks Rich

Probably best to avoid confusion, just let me know when you decide what you are building.

Hope to build something from the stash.  Thought about a Harrier but as there as already been a Harrier GB something else may be in order.

Off the top of my head thanks, more accurately thanks to reminders in this thread:

Strikemaster
Tunnan
Viggen- just checked- is Heller
Draken
HunterFG9

They all merit hard work in my book so don't know if i can finish in time (also doing Carrier GB) but will try my level best.  It's too hard to choose!

The Saab Tunnan and Hawker Hunter FGA9 are fairly easy and quick to assemble and to paint. You should have no trouble, the GB build is two months after all.

thanks for the vote of confidence Thomas!

the thing is i have already signed up for the carrier GB, to build the Victorious with PE!

Also i know for the kits mentioned i will rescribe the panel lines, and scratch a bit in the cockpit.

Have made things more difficult by changing my mind and settling for  GR1- which is going to be even more demanding.
Luckily being an older kit, there is much less flash.  But a lot of work will need doing.

But this will be a good incentive- have bagged a few early Harriers recently- so it will be good to start whittling the pile down.-quite literally!

The RAF referred to them as 'twin ramjet powered monoplanes' and they equipped RAF squadrons...

There's another way to get one in if you desperately wanted to build a Bloodhound - there was an air-ground missile based on the Bloodhound considered for carriage by TSR2s...
