Mine will be the 1/72 TSR-2

I opened the box today for a sneaky look. Why is the box so big?

It all seems very crisp and tidy, but not many parts, 97 according to the box. Panel lines are recessed.

Three versions are offered, XR219 (only one to fly?) XR220 which is at Cosford and XR222 which is at Duxford.

Not sure which to do, I hate painting white...

Not so much a 'what if', more of a 'what might have been'.

When I finally get round to building mine I'm going to do XR219, simply because it was the only one to fly. That way you can do a little bit of weathering and highlight the panel lines lightly since in theory it should be the only one to get dirty. Also the weathering should break up the white and make it look a little bit more intersesting.

Just a thought.

I've never done any weathering, not sure where to start.

lol, me neither. I just bought some of the pro-modellers wash and I'm going to try it out for the first time on my Meteor for this group build, I'll let you (and everyone else) know how I get on with it.

The TSR2 has always fascinated me.
But like the SR-71 it’s simply to big to fit into my displayed collection.
I have tried to build the SR-71. It ended in a half build model with no place to go when finished.
I’m really looking forward to see your progress.

All the best from Jesper.

Early days, still trying to clear some other kits off the workbench.

First time I have had decals for the cockpit detail, not a good fit, lots of Klear needed to stick them down, but I like the effect. (Not sure why it came out pink, it said grey on the tin!)

Not sure how much will be seen once the canopy is painted.

More after Telford.

I've started to put it together and am very disappointed, I'm not enjoying this. Many of the parts seem to be parts just for the sake of it.

Some of the fit is atrocious.  This kit has been designed by computer, not an engineer.

Ayup Colin...

I see you haven't tried to put the Airbrakes in the closed position !

I'm not sure they would fit if I had, but they might have covered two big gaps in the underlying panels.

Perhaps I should have put the kit on eBay and let someone else have the pleasure.

That would have been most of them then.

And just for fun, I was going to paint it white...

Is there a doctor in the house?

Hi Andy,

I am relaxed, my medication sees to that (a glass of red if you are offering   ), I'm just very disappointed with the kit.

Best

The shape of the aircraft is such that it is very difficult to engineer a kit that isn't complicated. Remember, you have to end up with components that can be ejected from a mould without getting jammed.

Skii at Britmodeller managed to produce this:

Take your time over the assembly and make sure everything fits before putting cement on the parts.

Skii used some resin and PE bits in his build, but it is really the finishing that sets it apart. It was on the Britmodeller table at Telford last Sunday.

Hi Paul

Now you have just made me depressed...

Beautiful work though, thanks for sharing, nothing like having something to aim at.

Assembly continues.

More later.

Don't cry, Colin.
You are, as far as I can see, making a good looking model.

Don't mind the bumpy ride, if the destination is worth it.

All the best from Jesper.
