I'll be building a 1/72 Gloster Meteor F.8, just bought one on fleabay as the only cold war era jets in my stash are non Airfix kits!

I recently finished the Xtrakit boxing. You might find these notes useful:

There are very few locating pins, careful assembly required.
The pilot's seat looks odd and is best replaced - Aeroclub fits the bill..
The wing outer panels are too thick and require reduction.
The engine nacelle upper/lower components don't match up very well, fettling required.
The nacelle front rings and jet pipes don't fit well, fettle and fill.
The wing/fuselage fit requires some fettling, also a small amount of filling underneath. My next build will have some spreaders in the fuselage to assist the fit.
The undercarriage components are fiddly, with an excess of components and butt fitting parts, including to the wheel bays. Careful assembly required. Contrary to instructions I fitted the wheel bays to the lower wing half first, to make sure they ended up in the right place.

Although my list might seem picky it is a very satisfactory build to undertake and the end result should be pleasing. Enjoy.

Peebeep has it covered, Badwolf + there are no real terrors.
my 11yr old decided she wanted as a first kit build

but with a little help it is going okay thus far.

See the link below: the upper wing was clamped to the fuselage, before the lower wing section was offered up. that seemed to work for us too

one minor irritation was the lack of colour call outs for interior/nacelle parts.

Thanks for the info, peebeep & walrus! It will certainly help me with the build. The kit ejector seat does look a bit odd, think I'll look for the Aeroclub seat to replace it (and it'll add a bit of weight in the nose).

As for my build I've started by sanding down the trailing edges of the wings, not completely satisfied with them yet, still need to take a little more plastic off.

There's an excellent build review of the Xtrakit version by Mike Grant in this month's Model Airplane International (issue 40). From memory, it pretty much concurs with what peebeep has said.

I've made a little more progress with this, the cockpit tub is now assembled, minus the ejector seat. As mentioned previously I'm not very keen on the kit seat so I've ordered an Aeroclub replacement from Hannants. No pics as yet, its been really grey & miserable this week, so the light hasn't been good enough for getting clear photos.

The cockpit has now been painted, I've used Revell aqua colour anthracite for the base coat and H64 for the dry brushing.

Progress update: this week I've painted the engine fronts anthracite and aluminium (H56) for the spar sections and dry brushing, the wheel wells and engine intakes have been given two coats of H56. I've also glued the cockpit tub into the starboard fuselage.

Thanks guys! Today I glued the engine fronts to the lower wings and added some weight under the cockpit, which together with the metal ejector seat should (

)prevent the model being a tail sitter.

The fuselage parts have now been glued together, the joint has been filled where necessary with thin cyano and the entire seam has been given a preliminary sanding down. Next step is to polish it as smooth as I can get it. No pics yet as the batteries in my camera have gone flat!
