I've now got the tailplanes glued on, just have to work out the best method to fill the small gaps left, I'm thinking thinned PVA is the way to go at the moment. |
You don't even need to thin it. When I built my HMS Fearless I applied the PVA with a cocktail stick then quikcly removed the excess with a damp cotton bud. Gap filled and no mess left behind. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

Thanks for the tip, Paul I'll give it a go without thinning, I tried out Tippex on my B26 in the Medium Bombers GB (currently on hold while I get this one finished) but couldn't get on with it at all.

Hi Spike Heggy is spot on the filler is indeed Squadron Green Putty.
And I've worked out how to get multiple quotes in one post too!!! _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

Hi walrus, when you're at the post a reply page you'll see a row of tags along the top of the message body section. Click the 'quote' tag, add ="username" between the word quote and the square bracket without any spaces, then copy and paste the text you want to quote and finally click the 'quote' tag again to add the closing tag - job done! Well, the holiday season hasn't quite been as productive as I'd hoped, only a few small bits and pieces done.
The tailplanes are now glued on and I've glued the gunsight and seat into the cockpit, also glued some small pieces of .060"x.040" strip on the wheel well doors and sanded them to a rough semi-circular profile to represent hinges, probably not accurate but their purpose is to provide more surface area for gluing.
Cockpit.
Wheel well doors.

I did something similar, except the 'hinges' are small strips of masking tape painted silver, fastened with superglue. There is an added bonus in that the hinge is flexible and small knocks are less likely to dislodge them.
Also the doors adjacent to the nacelles need to splay out a bit in order to fit.

Glad you like the idea Paul, be interesting to find out how well it works!

I'm planning on putting this model in a small display case when it's finished, so hopefully it won't get any knocks! _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

The canopy has now been attached, masked and the framing painted anthracite for the interior colour.

The topcoat of H11 silver was painted on over the weekend, it's had one full coat and some touching up of the worst streaky patches. It's not perfect but looks OK so I'll seal it with Klear ready for masking the tail.

Looking good, Badwolf. Your silver looks better than mine.

P.S. I like your lego paint stand. Was going to copy you, but have just found out my mum gave away all my old lego blocks. _________________ Our technology is compatiable; although your design is less elegant. |
