Hi Beep, glad I am not the only one that had a problem with fitting an Aeroclub seat, tried to fit one in my Martin Baker Meteor, had to chop a good 1/16" off the base, I used the kit seat in the rear cockpit.

Robin.

Probably the same way I found out that the canopy on the Airfix 1/72 Jaguar GR.3 won't fit if the pilot is in place.

Not done much since my last post; just dry brushed the cockpit, seat, console and the engine bits Hu56 (Aluminium) and the exhaust fans a mixture of 1/2 Hu53 (Gunmetal) and 1/2 Hu171 (Antique Bronze).

Here's some pics of where I am at the moment:

Cockpit and seat dry-brushed:

Console and fuselage halves dry-brushed:

Engine intakes painted Hu53 (Gunmetal) and engine internals painted Hu33 (Matt Black) then dry-brushed Hu56 (Aluminium):

(Both intakes are the same colour, it's just the lighting in the photo that makes them look different.)

And finally the exhausts:

Today I've added some Mike Grant instrument decals to the console, just need to seal these with a Matt cote then add a blob of Clearfix to create the illusion of a glass face. I also glued the tail halves together.

More work has been done today.

I've applied a coat of Matt Cote to the console to seal the decals in place.
The cockpit tub has been cemented to the starboard fuselage half.
The engine parts and wing spar have been glued to the lower wing halves.
The console has been cemented to the starboard side also.
Finally for today the wing halves have been glued together.

Nextplan is to tidy up the wings and tail piece, cement the fuselage halves together, then cement the wings and tail in place.

I'll post pics when there's some light.

Here's a pic of the cockpit tub fitted into the starboard half of the fuselage with the nose weight added:

and one of the console with the decals added and Matt Coted:

(this picture is a bit poor but it looks alot better in the flesh)

Today I've joined the fuselage halves together, cleaned the wings and tail, then cemented everything together.
This is what it looks like after everything has been sanded:

Some filler is needed on the seem at the top in places and around the nose, possibley around the engine intakes and exhaust aswell.

Since the last photo I've filled and sanded the joins on the top of the fuselage, the nose and the horizontal join for the intakes. I then rescribed (for the first time) the panel lines I lost using a Bare Metal Foil Company scriber.

After that I tidied up the cockpit by painting the remaining areas Hu33 (Matt Black) and then dry-brushing them Hu56 (Aluminium).
Here's a pic before I closed the canopy:

I then added the engine inlets (my build required the smaller diameter ones) and the exhausts.
The exhaust went on quite nicely and I only need a little filler, but the inlets were a different matter. The kit parts seemed far too small and almost as though they were for another kit.
Here's a pic:

In hindsight I think this could be my doing because I couldn't find my big clamps when joining the wing halves together, so the engine inlets were the only area not to be clamped while the cement was curing. I'll soon find out when I buid one of my Xtrakit or MPM versions.

I've know added the gunsight and canopy and have applied some Milliput to try and fair the intakes into the model.
I'll let the Milliput dry overnight then have a mamouth sanding session tomorrow followed by some more re-scribing (fingers crossed it should all turn out fine).

Hi Paul, excuse my agreeing with you, but I think you boobed on the intakes, I have used both large and small intakes on my four Meteors and not had a problem on any, you do need to clamp the engine fronts tight when gluing the wings together, other than that, your build is doing fine.  Unfortunately, things are on hold for me as I am still waiting for my LMS to get another delivery of Meteors.

Robin.

Concur with Robin. Also on my build I reduced the outer wing panel thickness by quite a lot and the inner panel by a bit less, whilst taking a smidge off the nacelles themselves. This resulted in a good fit when the intake rings were cemented on, after the nacelles had been worked into a more circular shape:

Hardly any filler required and just a few strokes with sanding sticks and scriber to restore everything.

Yeah I thought that was the case. I spent an hour and a half sanding to get them to look right and they're almost there. I'll finish sanding and rescribing over the weeknd and hopefully a coat of primer to see how it looks.

p.s I've bought myself some plastic G-clamps so this shouldn't happen again on my other meteors or any other future builds.

Here she is after filling, sanding, re-scribing and a coat of Hu1 (Primer):

It doesn't really show up on this picture but the re-scrbing is a bit rough. I should imagine when I apply the silver and certainly when I do a panel wash it will be more obvious. With time I'll get better I'm sure.

Ayup Paul...

I can still see the inlet cone/jet engine nacelle joins... is that an issue?

I'm NOT nitpicking, just calling what i can see...

Hi feanor,

Don't worry it's a welcome comment.

The join is no longer an issue, however my re-scribing skills are lol!! After filling and sanding the join I re-scribed it, unfortunately this being my first time I left a Matchbox-esque trench.
I think the light in the pic highlights this aswell as the line is made darker by a shadow.

Hi Paul,

Just on idea on the scribing-  I have the issue at times.... rather than go through the frustration of it all being same depth etc I have a 'cheat' which saves time and looks (probably more) effective.   To keep a kit 'sleek' I sand it smooth, paint it, then use the edge of scotch tape for a straight line - 'draw' along the edge of the tape over where a panel line would be, then let dry.  Peel off tape and lightly rub the lines back towards the tail at first (and in a parallel direction to the airframe) then rub back and forth to get airframe discolouration as well.  Give it a try, so what you think - try out on underside first.  Apply water to remove completely.

Black ink pen for a heavy line - pencil for a lighter one.

Cheers
Ian

I had a slight mishap this morning.

I gave the wings a second coat of Hu11 (Silver) yesterday and let the model dry overnight. Today when I moved it from the drying area back to my modelling area I dropped it and snapped off the pitot on the port wing. Whilst trying to re-attatch it, luckily it stood out from my blue carpet being silver, I got glue on my fingers without realising and got sticky finger all over the port wing.
I sanded the glue off but it doesn't look as good as it first did, and I re-painted the area affected while I was givning the fuselage it's first coat of Hu11.

Should have some pics up tomorrow of the whole thing painted silver, looks real cool to me and stands out from my other builds.

A second coat of Hu11 (Silver) went on the fuselage today, here's pic:

The port wing still needs touching up a little and this will be done in due course.

Just need to paint the exhausts then it's on with 3 coats of Klear and the decals (my favourite bit of any build).
