Was Christmas productive?  errrmmmm................. no. I didn't really think it would be either to be honest.
I have applied 3 coats of Klear today though so the decals can go on tomorrow.

Looks like I'll be a few days over on this one.

Decals are finally on with only one minor problem; the walkway stencils stuck to the model instantly so I couldn't re-position them (they were pretty much in the right place anyway so they look ok).

Also I dropped the model for a second time and the pitot tube snapped off again, however this time it was swallowed by the carpet monster and at this late stage I'm not going to replace it.

Hi Paul.  Coming along quite well.  Having lost countless pitot tubes in the past, if at all possible I now replace mine with a steel pin.  In the case of my four Meteors, I cut a slot on the inside of the upper and lower wing-tips where the pitot will fit, put a piece of very thin cable sleeve on the pin and glue it all inside the wing-tip before gluing the main-planes together.  To avoid stabbing myself with the finished item, I always file off the sharp end of the pin.

Robin.

Sounds like a great idea.

Is such a good idea for all sorts of things - eg airbrake rams- when they need to be scratched/replaced.

why didn't i think of it!
Oh Yeah- because it is a great idea!

Today I used Promodellers Dark Wash for the first time on this model but the results weren't quite as I had hoped; the wash didn't go into all the panel lines, even after a second application.
I gave the model two coats of Klear to seal in the decals and let that dry for over 24 hours before I appled the wash as the video on the Promedeller website suggests and the wash was left to dry for between 1 - 2 hours.

My question is that could the additional two coats of Klear have pooled into the panel lines and made a completely smooth surface?

If it helps the model has had one coat of Hu1 (primer), two coats of Hu11 (Silver), three coats of Klear, decals appiled and finally two coats of Klear to seal in the decals all aplied with a 3mm Sable flat brush.

I think you may have answered your own question Paul

Using brushes, i have had problems using Klear and getting wash to get into some panel lines.

to be honest this is one reason why i have stopped using Klear as a gloss prep for decalling.  it is hard to brush 2-3 coats thin enough.

maybe i am doing something wrong?

I have had problems with Klear pooling and filling panel lines. I might try airbrushing it and seeing how that goes

I sent an e-mail to Phil at Promodeller who makes the product and he siad the result could be that the paint/Klear had built up in the lines or that the lines on the kit aren't deep enough to start with and recommended that I go over all the lines with a needle in a pin vice.
He couldn't give a definate answer though as he hasn't built the kit himself.

from personal experience that would sound like a very plausible explaination, Paul

Well here's mine finally finished:

The undercarriage was fairly straight forward to attatch, but the gear bay doors were a bit tricky, even using Badwolf's nice little plasticard hinge idea.

Also when I took the masking off it there was something left on parts of the canopy. I think it's just where some varnish got underneath the tape because some of the paint bled through aswell.
I was wondering though if you could leave tape on for too long and some of the adhesive gets left behind, is this possible? (I used the Eduard canopy masks if it helps)
