There will be a slight delay in this build. I went ahead and bought another kit on ebay. It was cheap because the seller said it might be complete--might not. I have one incomplete kit. What are the odds that a second incomplete kit will be missing the same parts?
Well, let's think positive, shall we?
(I also acquired a set of Superscale decals for the F-86D for 99 cents and 1.50 postage! So I'll be waiting for that to arrive as well.)
This is going to be a great group-build.
NOW LET'S GET OUT THERE AND FABRICATE!! _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Positive thinking pays off.
The kit is complete, and the price was considerably lower since the listing was unclear on this.
Anyway, what we have here is a Classic British Kit of a Classic American Fighter. It looks like one of the better Airfix kits and it will make a very cool counterpart to the Banshee. The only difficulty will be the natural metal finish--but that will be dealt with using foil.
Today is a good day. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Good luck with your foil, Dancho.
I will be trying it too on my F-86D + on my Shooting Star.
The thought scares me when I think about it.
But I think it will be worth it.
I’m looking forward to see you progress!
All the best from Jesper. |

The decals are wonderfully printed but yellowed.
I've tried many times (seven? eight?) to get the "put decals in the sunshine" trick to work and it has never worked for me. Don't know why.
Anyway, here's my solution.
Acquired on the 'bay. I have another sheet with the "USAF" and national insignia. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Not much to report. Just painting the interior parts dark gull gray. I don't know when dark gull gray became the standard, but I'm going to go with it.
The interior of the intake is Polly Scale aluminum. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Continuing to poke along.
I like to "detail" cockpits with DECALS! This seems to have fallen out of fashion but it works for me. The seat belts are decals from an old Microscale P-47 sheet. I would have used a decal for the instrument panel but there is this big radar thing in the middle of it. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Thank you for waiting during that slight delay. We will now return to our regular programming.

Yes, lad! This is the life!
This kit and the Banshee are two of the best Airfix kits I've built. Easily as good as Hasegawa from the same time period (1980). But Hasegawa didn't stop improving, eh? Unfortunately the price increase for Hasegawa recently has been Biblical in proportions...
Anyway--this model IS going to get the foil treatment. The most difficult part of it is convincing myself that I can. The process looks so intimidating.
But it's not really that hard. It's just that first step that's the hardest. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Ayup Dan...
Never a truer word spoken ...
Love your Dog, though. It's one of my All-Time favourites too. and although i guess you'll use Polly Scale, I envy you for having access to Testors stuff... I really wanna try it ! _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

After doing what is (for me) an exceptionally large amount of filling and sanding (using "typewriter correction fluid") this was the result.
I really, really hate sanding. So I bought this gadget (a bit more expensive than I would like) to do the "final sanding." I think it works well.. but I'm easy to please.
It functions like one of those new-fangled electric toothbrushes. It's not rotary-- it twists back and forth at high speed. The abrasive is a "scrubber" material like one uses to wash pots and pans.
It's very good at polishing plastic. Doesn't do the "heavy" sanding too well... but it takes care of that tedious "fine sanding." _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Really nice to see you going again, Dancho.
Just beware of scruff marks; they are SO visible on a bare metal finish.
All the best from Jesper. _________________ Feel free to visit my Portfolio. |

Not if you cover it with aluminum foil. Or is that aluminium?
Whatever it is, it will cover up quite a multitude. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

I've painted the anti-glare panel a shade of green that matches the few photos I have. The radome is painted black. I'll be foiling around these areas so they have to be painted in advance.

The stage is set.
Unfortunately, I have an exam on Wednesday so I'll be busy studying and won't have to time to continue this project for a few days. _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”
