Looks great Jesper!
Did you hand paint the silver?

Thanks guys.
I always use a "hairy" brush.
I used the same Chrome silver I used on my F-86D but the finish is much worse this time.
This is why I let the model “sleep” for a month and missed the deadline.
I thought the paint would be hardened enough to take a second layer. It wasn’t the case.
I really need to go airbrushing with paint like this.
When it’s finished, it goes into my display cabinet, and will normally only be seen from a distance at over a meter, so it’s not that bad.
All the best from Jesper. |

Happy New year!!
If it helps Jesper I hand paint all my models aswell and I found that it helps to thin Humbrol enamels with their own brand thinners, especially when using the metallics.
A flat brush is also handy when painting a single colour like a metal finish.
p.s Gald you've enjoyed the forum, it certainly does make a mainly solitary hobby feel more social. _________________ 60% of the time it works every time.

A month!!!
I'm glad to hear..... well I'm not glad that the paint hasn't hardened, but am glad you shared that Info with me/us as I was seriously considering doing the dry-time-test myself.
I doubt I would have waited more than a week. I'm not that patient. and so you have saved me both time & from probably ruining my paint work.
THANK YOU!
I think I'll try a rattle-tin next time I paint silver.

As my wife says to me, "as long as it looks good in the photo" and yours certainly does!

Better late than never.
Next time I join a GB; I think I will stick with one model at a time, and no natural metal finish.
It was driving me nuts.

Jesper, that looks fine to me. Nothing so boring as a consistent shade of one colour. _________________ Roger. |

Nice build Jesper, good to see you persevered with it in spite of having trouble with the silver paint. _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

Thanks for all your kind remarks.
The paint was really troublesome.
Even now nearly 2 month after painting the chrome silver, I can still make fingerprints that can’t be removed again,
and there are traces of metal pigments on my fingers.
And I always try to keep my hands as clean and dry as possible when I handle my models.
I think the problem is the paint layer is far too thick and has a rather high level of oil or other to bind the metal pigments.
If the paint was airbrushed, I think the problem would be gone by now.
All the best from jesper. _________________ Feel free to visit my Portfolio. |

Great result. The shooting star is one of my favourite aircraft and you have done her proud.
