right, time to get started on this. This build was a kind present from my Dad. How he managed to get a 2008 boxing is a mystery to me as I haven't seen it in Milton Keynes model shop, model zone or my LMS yet!
Anyway, old box art but with a silver swoosh as is becoming standard:

I'll be doing the Boston in Desert Camo as I can't afford the night fighter decals! They are on the brown backing paper of doom though. so I may be forced into buying some anyway.

Anyway, progress so far has been fairly steady, & this is where I'm at as of this evening- fuselage halves dry fitted & painted, wings drying & Jonny Pilots nearing painting completion. (apologies for the poor photo)

The piltos look alright from one side

but when you turn them over

As the observer/radar operator looks like he's wearing aout 4 togas & 3 dressing gowns I've decided he's going to get a cross desert transfer & do his pilot training ready for my Kitty hawk where his ridiculous attire will be less visible. Jonny Pilot from the Kitty hawk  has also had a transfer due to his crisper moulding & visible detail- The front of the boston is all glass so he'll be far more on display, although he will lose a few toes to squash him in.

This is the bit where I need help from you guys- the cockpit & forward section both look very bare & I'd like to add some detail, can you give me some links/ideas? What would you do? I'd like to do something seeing as the front is so exposed.

what do we think?

Might be worth taking up Ratch's offer.....That guy on the right looks kind of like 'The Rocketeer'!

Aircrew figures are not how I remember them that's for sure.....I'd happily buy a box of multipose 1/72 aircrew if I could find some!

All the best

That guy on the left looks like the ordinary pilot supplied with most kits but the guy on the right just looks strange, it might be worth while changing them. As for detail, it isn't my strong point but how about some seatbelts and possibly a control panel/ stick. You may be able to get an aftermarket set for inside the 'pit

That'd be fantastic Ratch- I'd rather not have to use either of the two if needs be, 'rocketeer' is about right and certainly made me chuckle.
I'll Pm you my address.
Thankyou!
anyone got any detailing ideas? can't find an interior picture of it anywhere typing in boston, havoc, douglas, a 20 or anything
what would have been similar?

when the pilots are glued in place seat belts wouldn't seem so visible maybe Daniel? I was thinking for the floor & sides. Am struggling for reference material.

Perhaps not, but you could do them on the bit that is visable on the seats i.e. the tops and then continue on the figures maybe?. Also i mentioned aftermarket parts like photo etch. Hannants has a set but they are for the 1/48 version. Somebody else may know where you can get a set for the 1/72 (if such a thing exisits)

You can do wonders with come plastic card and a few reference pics. These are a couple that i found on google, i presumed they were the boston (but it gives you some idea)

ah how obvious... thanks guys.
I was typing in Douglas  Boston interior, control panel, dash board etc... I'm such an idiot I never put cockpit... How embarassing.    I'll see what I can do with my minimal spares box.
Thanks guys, those pics will be really helpful. Does anyone know what kind of gubbins would have been in the observer's front window? radio kit etc maybe?

Hi George

Here is another modeller's interpretation, not sure you want to see it though...

Colin That's given me a cracker of an idea, it's perfect- I'm going to update you shortly & let you know if it comes off! perfecto! you deserve a medal!
am still mildly stuck for the front section though... I'm thinking of just guessing & blagging something- there's no references anywhere as far as I can find.

I don't know if you're aware of it, AFCBGeorge, but one of your crew members seems to be a member of our very own St. Paul Winter Carnival Vulcan Krewe.

Not sure how he sneaked in there...

They're the standard Airfix USAAC crew members. I remember them for the old B-17 and the Catalina kits. Think it's supposed a representation of the high altitude suits.

I'm not mad on them Hewman, & I think mine are moulded ridiculously badly- if you look at the guy on the right, his boots & legs are thicker than his head! They seriously are massively disproportioned & the camera is being very kind.

I got some new figures yesterday that arrived through 'mystery post-' no stamp no note, no knock! I felt like Harry Potter as I didn't even see the car in the street & the tiler who was working with the door open in our kitchen didn't hear or notice anyone! Stealth!   Clearly it was Ratch though to whom I am very grateful.

My Grand plan with Colin's inspiration has worked a treat- I'll post pictures later tonight.

It was clearly one of the Ratchs, probably a specialised delivery one, with a few customised Chameleon genes in his DNA!

All the best
