Sorry if somebody else has asked the same question, couldnt find anything by searching 'Buccaneer'. Anyway, went to Yorkshire Air Museum recently on one of their 'Thunder Jets' days, and was inspired by the Buccaneer. Does anybody know when the Airfix kit will actually be released- all sources I have found just say 'due to be released 2008. Any help here would be much appreciated- it's one of my favourite aircraft!

Am I right in thinking this kit si out tomorrow? Whistling  I hope so for the sake of Mr Airfix, otherwise I will get very cross and send him a letter telling him how naughty he has been!

Hey all

Been looking forward to this all year myself.  Was on the Airfix website for ages in the New for 2009 list but has gone now .  Still if you type Buccaneer into the product search it still has a page and picture so there is hope yet   .

But as we have seen no new box art for it I imagine Amazon are going off what they were originally told to get their pre orders in.

I just don't understand Hornby's logic. Why re-issue a poor kit with new parts when they opt to produce a completely new kit of the Hawk (which wasn't bad in the first place). Madness! They had a great opportunity to produce a really good new kit of the Buccaneer here and they seem to have wasted in on simply tarting-up a kit which was never great in the first place.

Eh

Eh squared.

Are you confused with the NA39 which is more like a working toy than a kit.
I've got two on the go at the mo one RAF, one FAA and they are fine kits.

Its just a little thought, but given that the Hawk has featured more consistently in the catalogue over the last 35 years than the Bucc, the fact that the kit represented the P.1182 prototype and not a true T.Mk.1, given the need for a Hawk 100 (with the RAFs aquisition of the Mk.120) and that more people will be familiar with the Hawk through The Red Arrows than an aircraft that was retired 15 years ago, maybe the logic was the Hawk was a more commercially viable subject?

er...no

I can't imagine what the thinking was behind the Hawk. Not that I'm complaining - the kit's pretty good. I just can't work-out why they didn't apply the same approach to the Buccaneer. As most folks will agree, the Airfix Buccaneer was/is okay-ish, but it was far from great (in fact some still think the Matchbox kit was easier to make into a decent model in some respects). Just seems like a missed opportunity to produce a really good kit of the Buccaneer - heaven knows we need one!

Hey all

A new bucc would have been nice and we may see one someday.  However the new Hawk kit makes a lot more comercial sence (esp as it includes a pocket money Red Arrows release) and is a fantastic kit .

I think it's just the one, it's been bumped up to a series 4 kit due to the added extras, some places still have the old series 3 number listed as a future re-release.

Given budget and time constraints it makes commercial sense to modify existing toolings. It's quicker and cheaper than doing all new toolings and hopefully makes the re-release of the kit more desireable and therefore succesful.
e.g modified F-27, Matilda hedgehog, updated Saturn V.

This means more money in the company coffers, happy accountants, and hopefully more money to develope all new toolings.

See post above - of the two subjects, the Hawk is still flying, more export customers use it and its the mount of The Red Arrows.

A new tool Hawk also gives Airfix a much-needed Hawk 100 which they previously did not have.

It is simply the better known aircraft of the two, therefore one would imagine a better commercial prospect.
