Thanks guys, I'm glad you're enjoying the build so far.
I have just finished detailing the pilots ejector seat. I built the seat from the box and was just going to add straps but decided to go further hence it was partially painted before I decided to detail it. I also found out I'd assembled the seat wrong anyway.
I worked from a drawing on the Martin Baker Website Here
http://www.martin-baker.com/getdo...4c58-bc82-c42ed8581e1f/Mk--2.aspx
I used plasticard, lead foil and assorted lengths of wire to detail the seat. The ejection handles are a piece of yellow painted fusewire and a piece of black painted fusewire twisted together. I decided to discard kit part 7C and remake it and just use kit parts 1C 4C and 10A.
I have shown the modified seat alongside a seat built from the box for comparison. I thought I'd show it before I finished painting it so the different materials I've used can be seen.

Nice paint job on the cockpit, and that modified ejector seat looks superb! _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

Thanks guys. Anyone who I have shown the seat to will tell you that I'm very pleased with myself on getting it to look as good as it does.
I know I've not written anything for a week but I have a big update this evening.
I've started to Paint the seat and I've also made some enquiries and have come to the conclusion that the B (I) 8 has the control wheel instead of the stick so I have removed the stick and need to paint the other one and fit it.
The main part of this weeks progress build was completing assembly of the main components
When joining the two fuselage halves together I had a small gap in the font section I added a small amount of filler.
I also had a bit of a gap in the nosewheel well nothing too serious but I thought I'd add some strips of plasticard to hide it.
I also had a gap when I fitted the fuselage insert around the cockpit. I used plasticard to fill it and a touch of filler. This is the worst gap I've had on the kit so far and it's easily fixable.
I opened the cutouts for the Gun pack and glued the bomb bay doors together before adding the gun pack. Once dry I glued it to the fuselage and got a good join. I would have liked to have the bomb bay doors open to show the detail inside but as I've fitted the gun pack I've had to close them. I'll have them open once I buy the B.2 kit
The fit of wings to fuselage was perfect apart from me catching the wing on my model desk and breaking a small corner off the trailing edge. I fixed it by cutting the break into a square and gluing a small piece of plasticard into it and sanded it flush.
I also filled the deep panel lines on the rudder. Once it was sanded down I applied primer, checked it for any imperfections and filled those as well.
He we have the Canberra next to the Hawk 128 also on my workbench for a size comparison.
A bit more sanding and I can start to apply the primer ready for painting. For a large aircraft construction is really simple and it goes together quickly. |

I'm really impressed with the fit of this one. Hardly used any filler with the exception of the lines on the rudder
I didn't get much time to work on this model this last week. I've managed to get most of the sanding done which meant I could glue the clear nosecone on.
There are no locating pegs on the nosecone so you have to take care when gluing on so that it's on square. I messed up the first time and ended up with it rotated round slightly but I managed to get it off ok and reattach it.
I also cleaned up the landing gear. As you can see in this picture the locating pin is very small
In a prevention is better than cure exercise I decided to drill out the landing gear and reinforce the legs and axles with Brass rod. I only went part of the way down with the main legs but the brass rod goes the ful length of the nose leg as it has to support all that weight and I wanted to make it as strong as possible.

Ayup Mark...
Excellent stuff !
I like your build so much !
Can you tell us how you drilled the noseleg for the brass rod please? do you have a post drill? or is it by eye (!) As its something i'd like to learn... nosewheels are ntoriously hard to handle. the metal ones for my two Harriers were complete pains in the bum i can tell you ! _________________ Airfix Member 022... Ayup Feanor,
I’m glad you’re enjoying the build so far. I’m having fun building the Canberra as it is a lovely model to put together with some scope for detailing if you choose to.
The Canberra Nose leg is easy to reinforce as it is chunky but with practice it’s possible to reinforce Spitfire landing gear legs with brass rod. I had to do this when I shortened the undercarriage legs for my ICM Spitfire IX
I use a drill bit in a pin vice and do it by hand. First I mark the centre with a needle then I drill it using a smaller drill first as it’s more manageable. I take it slowly and take care to keep it straight and in the centre. Once I’m happy that it’s right I use the correct sized drill for the brass rod.
For the axle on the Nose leg I sliced off the kit lugs with a knife and drilled the centre section care has to be taken at this stage as there isn’t much plastic round the brass rod once the hole is drilled.
If you go slowly it's quite easy.
You'll notice the plastic will go lighter in colour before you break through anywhere you shouldn't.
I’ll have to give a step by step demo once I get my eager mitts on a PR.9……………… |

Managed to get some more work done this evening.
I've just applied the first coat of Primer. I think there is a bit more filling and sanding to do as I want to get the finsh as good as I can.
Shown with the fighter canopy dry fitted in place....
After doing a little research I noticed that the elevators are a bit too square at the end so I've rounded the corners a little
Original kit parts

Great to this build progressing and to hear the details of all the work you are doing.

Ayup Mark...
Thanks for your description. Kudos to you for doing it by eye... Even doing my Harriers' white metal Undercarriage with a post drill was very traumatic i can tell you, as you HAVE to have a good, true pilot hole. and hope you don't go too deep into the main leg. and through the other side.
Thanks. i look forward to your Demo, when you get a chance... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Well I have PR.9 now so I'll be able to do a demo when I get the chance.
I've not updated this for a while but have been working on the model. mainly filling and sanding ready for painting.
I've also made a small addition to the Wingtip drop tanks There is a navigation light on the tip of each tank with a wire running down the front of the tank presumably from the wingtip Nav light. I've drilled a hole in the tank ready to take a nav light. I've also added the wire as can be seen in the pic below.
The Navigation lights are a bit of a tricky fit and require some work to get them to sit right.
After masking I've painted the underside Humbrol Gloss Black
The camo will be the next paint to get done. |

I've managed to get a bit more done this evening.
The Seat is now painted. I thought I'd take a couple of pics of the finished article before fitting it.
The cockpit is nicely detailed but the main instrument panel has little or no detail. I used Mike grant decals fot the instruments and they have the desired affect and add the extra detail. Looks like I can fit the canopy tomorrow..... |
