I've not done much more this evening. Peeled off the masking, everything seems to be in order (only one or two chips, no problems there). Fitted the u/c doors to the u/c legs. A bit of two part epoxy has been scooped around the shop to strengthen everything up. Next step is to do the mottling in H27. The instructions only ask for one callout - should there be more than one shade?

Cheers,
Owen

Cheers Tim, hopefully I'll get this number finished in a bit, I've got waylaid with other modelling bits recently but am keen to get this out of the workshop

I managed to spend a bit more time on this recently. I did the mottling along the sides two nights ago. I started off by doing this with a mask made from a bit of plasticard, but it didn't work well so I decided to do it freehand.

Tonight I've given it a coat of Klear and made a start on touching up bits and bobs in the engine where paint got in through gaps in the cowling. I've fitted the white ring around the front of the engine and have given the spinner another coat of H174 with the blades being painted a first coat of H91.

I took my camera out to the shed, but I forgot to put the recharged battery in!

G'day.

Great work it's looking terrific.

I,ve just aquired this kit and am considering getting started on it.
I was wondering if there was a standard "fix" for the 5mm long engine fit problem?

Do I trim or build new engine hangers, in retrospect do you think this is the best solution? I don't want to add 5mm to the cowl.

Is it exactly 5mm too long, how much do I have to shorten it by? and does this interfere with the exhaust fit?

Any information on this would be very useful

cheers

I've never heard of this    and Owen makes no mention of any remedial work in his build notes
Hangartime has built one and is currently building another    maybe he knows

Here's some info from another build

http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=20824&st=60

It's also mentioned in some reviews

http://web.ukonline.co.uk/jonathan.mock/iac/reviews/fw190.html

In both of these cases the engine hangers were trimmed, but I was wondering if there was a more elegant solution.

cheers

This might be a problem I've not yet had the joys of discovering Silence

I've got the foremost ring now fitted, but I can't remember any noticable extrusions I'm out of the house ATM, but when I get back I will have a look

Ah - just read this - i left off part number 36  - solve all issues - part can't be seen (as in this shot) as it's covered by exhaust stacks etc

Your build coming along nicely too.

There is a bit of 'round the houses' as the previously posted threads for Large Scale Planes involves some dialogue and picture swapping of previous 190 builds too between us.

Cheers
Ian

Thanks

Got that, leave off  part 36 rear crankcase

much more elegant than cutting engine hangers (and easier)

I,ve heard of people incrementally shaving the 'case, also shaving between cylinder rings and front of engine to retrieve the 5mm and remain "authentic" but it's just too big a hassle.

weird error though

cheers

Finally on the home straight with this one!

I airbrushed the mottling along the sides a couple of weeks ago, with mixed results - I originally tried using a mask, but this method went haywire (there is now a huge splodge on the cowling!) and went for freehand instead which was an improvement but I have learnt lessons for future experience! From the picture it looks quite bad but with some decals on and a bit of weathering I hope that I can rescue it a bit!

The fuselage mounted machine guns are now in place and the cowling all fits to a reasonable extent after a bit of bashing. I have applied two coats of Klear, it looks like it'll need a few more to make a really nice glossy surface.

Cheers,

Only two days before the show officially ends!

After about 5 or 6 coats, the Klear seems to be adequate for the job, I've left it to cure for a day and will tackle the decalling ASAP!

(You can see the "splodge" on the cowling cover that I mentioned before in this shot from experimenting with masks for the mottling).

Cheers,

Nice finish, well worth the effort you have put in. I'm tempted to try one of these myself now.

Best

I tend not to worry about sploges, after all, the Erk who sprayed the camo on may never have held a spray-gun before  Airhead

Looks good Owen

Ayup Owen...

Does that include the one which looks like the number '1' under the canopy?

Decalling is slowly chugging along!

Nose cone has had the yellow spinner fixed, just needs touching up with some H154. Main decals are now on, just the stencils to go!
